Blacklist and Whitelist

Using SpamHound as your default messaging app you have reliable protection from undesired incoming content. Create spam filtering rules in Blacklist to block messages from certain senders or those, that contain specific words, phrases or digits. All messages that fly under the Blacklist rules are stored in the Spam tab.

Prevent blocking of important content in Whitelist, which prioritizes the messages that comply with its rules so that they don’t get filtered out. You will never lose precious mail as all SMS from the Whitelist displayed in your inbox.

Spam filtering

For more fine-tuning filtering of your rules, you can apply Contains, Starts with, Ends with, Equals modes to the sender, and body of messages. Extended options as regular expressions and wildcard are also available to use.

Check the statistics of rules worked and messages filtered by week, month and year. As well, besides creating rules manually, activate predefined rules in the Settings tab to block SMS from short numbers and those that contain links.

Ratings and reviews

I have been using this app since before the 2020 election. It was very effective in filtering text spam (political is the worse), although it took a while to develop the filter rules. I discovered it would not send photos or other attachments, but I could send them by temporarily switching to another text app. I recently realized it had been updated to send photos (yay!) but somehow it has lost the ability to notify me when texts arrive. I have been all through the app settings and system settings and can find nothing that restores this essential ability. Samsung S9+ Android 10.

Apps like this (and KeyMessages) frustrate me so much. They do a great job filtering out junk text (which I desperately need. I get 10 per day). But, your app is not a messaging app if you can't do basic stuff (like attaching pictures). As a result, I have no choice but to change my phone number and start anew because there is no workable solution out there. If you don’t have the resources to compete with the "big guys", change the game. I think this app should be changed to run IN ADDITION to other messaging apps. Let the big guys be the "default messaging app". This app should require access to messages but not require default messaging app. This app could then run behind the scenes and filter junk texts and do what it does best. I would pay for this functionality. This app is really 1 star but I am giving 3 stars because you have the potential to be 5 stars with small changes.

Beautiful blacklist feature catches all my SMS spam! I love it. There are shortcomings like inability to send pictures and gifs but I keep my other message program right next to it and when I need to use that feature I switch to it, send my picture, then switch back. Switching back & forth takes, literally, 1 second each time so it's not an inconvenience. Thank you for this great program.
