About this app

Reveri's self-hypnosis can help you anywhere in just a few minutes.

BACKED BY SCIENCE

Dr. David Spiegel, Associate Chair of Psychiatry at Stanford University School of Medicine, is a psychiatrist who has taught more than 7,000 people how to better manage their minds and bodies using hypnosis. David is also Reveri's Co-Founder and Chief Scientific Officer, bringing more than 45 years of clinical and research experience studying stress, pain, sleep, and hypnosis. He has written thirteen books, 404 scientific journal articles, and 170 book chapters. He was educated at Harvard and Yale and now teaches at Stanford. He created Reveri so that you can tap his expertise, change your mind and mind your body.

CHANGE YOUR MIND

Use your mind to better control your body. Reveri's focused self-hypnosis sessions cover a range of challenges like insomnia, stress, focus, pain perception, eating habits, and quitting smoking.

WHAT IS SELF-HYPNOSIS?

In plain terms, self-hypnosis is just a naturally occurring state of highly focused attention.
Have you ever gotten so caught up in a good movie or a play or a novel that you think you're in the fictional world and forget about the world around you?
That's what self-hypnosis is like.
When you use a telephoto lens or pinch to zoom way in on a picture on your phone - you get to see incredible detail of a very specific area, but you become less aware of the surrounding context.

That's what self-hypnosis is like.

Many people fear that hypnosis is a loss of control. In reality, hypnosis is a means of increasing your control over your mind and body. Our minds are powerful tools, and most of us can learn how to use them more effectively. Hypnosis gives us a pathway to alter the relationship between mind and body.

I've been using "Relieve Stress" a lot, and it's really useful. I do like that it's something that's research-based, having heard Dr. Spiegel on Huberman Labs. Seems like they're still working out the kinks on the interactive side of things for the sessions where you're supposed to speak into the app. Hopefully they'll continue getting better with that part of it.

I was surprised by how bad this was - there are only 6 "full" (8-9 min) sessions and then a bunch of "micro" sessions that are only 60 seconds. Them being extremely short means there's time to go into it, literally hear him say one or two sentences then come out of it. Like on the goals one he just says "what are your three most important things to get done? Choose your goals for today" and that's it. I was expecting more of a motivational or calming thing?

Our most successful members appreciate that Reveri is quick and simple, but we acknowledge it's not for everyone. We encourage you to keep trying! For some people, it takes practice. It's best that you have a goal in mind going in to using Reveri, as it is a directed approach to goals/challenges (vs. a general approach like with meditation).

I really like this app, and I've not had trouble with it crashing or getting stuck in some loading process. The following is my reason for the low rating, however: Assuming everything goes perfectly, talking to the device during hypnosis is distracting. But when the device doesn't register your answer it's straight up disruptive. I hope you'll make that feature something that can be toggled on or off for each session.
