Surprisingly poor app. The remote uses wifi to control your Roku. There's a bug where, even if you have wifi enabled, the app will force you to go settings, back out, close, and reopen the app. The keyboard input for searching does not work well at all either. You actually have to use directional controls to select characters on screen instead of typing text on your phone to search. Could be much better. A notification bar with quick controls would be useful.
I doubt if anyone from the company even reads these but I have been having the hardest time getting my app to use the volume controls. It wants to instantly run to maximum sound or all the way to 0. If this bug were fixed I would come back and fix this review to a full five stars. Other than that issue though I love the roku system.
They removed private listening for older devices. I have a Roku 3 which I was going to use for headphone streaming of content while running on a treadmill. This feature used to exist for the Roku 3, but no more. Why would any Dane company remove features? If they think it will make me buy a newer Roku, they are completely wrong.
I'm giving it 3 stars based on its private listening feature. Not sure if it's my phone or the app, but it's gotten worse than it already was. The audio lags behind the video by about 2 seconds. It makes it basically impossible to watch using that feature. Everything else about the app works great, and I'd be happy to raise it to 5 stars it that issue were resolved.
I love the Roku remote app. It lets me control all my Roku TV's from one place...no need to search for the remote. Plus, I can turn the kids TV's of from my room without having to run across the house. Love it! Only issue is a bug in the volume up/down. It sometimes goes all the way up/down with no stopping it. Fix that pls
I've only used the Roku app a little, for a few days. It seems very well designed. I'd like a button in the app to turn closed captioning on and off. This is much easier than using the simplistic remote. Even the remote is good at what it does, but typing on my phone's keyboard [Search mode, service login) is much easier than on the TV.
