Being a new drone pilot this is a great app to have tp ensure I'm within the rules and regulations. However it becomes a little fizzy when determining exactly how far away I am from a no fly zone. The Orange zones are a little bland in their explanation at times and only imply if I'm within 5.5km of an area I can't fly there. It would be good if it determined my distance and just said yes or no, otherwise provide a measurement system so I can work it out for myself. I could use Google maps but that is not a direct line distance and rather via streets so it's useless. Would give 5 stars once this is more refined for new users such as myself.
I hate the new update. It used to be so easy to know where you could fly and at what altitude. New update is just jibberish with no indication of max altitude. It basically just tells you don't fly here for the entire Sydney region.
Great app. Works extremely well and very quick to work out my location. Its great to actually find an app that tells you what you want to know, when so many websites have been completely useless.
Short and simple. Does the job well. Thanks for making the rules simple to understand. The 5.5km rule is not very clear. Can I fly if I don't see any other aircraft, and land immediately when I am aware of other aircraft?
A great app and initiative from casa, however I think there should be a 5.5km radius marker from your current location. This would highlight your no fly zone exactly from airports etc. Just a suggestion anyway.
The app is ok. But the new CASA rules are ridiculous. 5.5 km zones are an overkill. It's essentially a total ban over Sydney area. When the rules are not reasonable people tend to ignore them.
Now includes fire and emergency operations for all Australian states and territories (except for the Northern Territory).
Clarified rules for recreational drone flyers.
Missing airports added (Geraldton and West Wyalong)
