Your android will not be overwritten. Linux runs parallel to your Android OS.
This will only work if you already have root access, at least 4GB (small) or 6 GB(big) free storage space and are wlling to install BusyBox and a VNC Viewer App (both free).
Android and Linux will share their kernel.
Please note: As of technical reasons this strategy allows runnig a linux desktop environment on top of android but mitght not be 100% fully featuered. The display makes use of the free app Android VNC Viewer - which is a requirement - or also supports any other VNC client (optionally). A direct link is further made (optionally) to wyse pocket cloud pro if you have it installed.
If the app does not work on your specific device please contact our support. Do not leave a bad review as long as you didn't talk to us. Furthermore sometimes replying your support request might initially take up to one week.
As google only allows refund within 15 minutes we guarantee - if you write to our support - that you will get your money back if you contact us within 48 hours from purchase and we can not get the issue solved together with you.
Money Back Guarantee is valid if all of these circumstances are met:
-Linux is not running (does not include incompatibility to specific applications)
-You contacted our support within 48 hours from purchase
-You did wait for our reply (might take up to a week)
-If we try to solve the issue - you have to help up to a time of 4 weeks (beginning with the day of opening your support ticket). Then you decide: going on solving or money back.
In any other case: Just write to us. We will try to find a solution.
We can NOT help you with rooting your device!
P.s.: Yes, this is the next generation of Ubuntu Kickstart App! - Now not Ubuntu but a more recent, free linux distribution with even better features.
P.p.s.: We were forced to publish this as a new app by google. If you are a customer of Ubuntu Kickstart you can contact email@example.com and tell us your google order id of both, Ubuntu KS and Linux KS after purchasing this new version via google wallet. We will then refund up to 50% of the price you paid for Linux Kickstart (depending on what you paid for Ubuntu Kickstart).
--> This offer is valid until February, 28th! <--
One more note: Different devices have different flavours. We are not using standard APIs what makes it very difficult to ensure a broad support of devices. Please always contact us when you are having problems. Thanks for beiung a fair customer!

Primarily, I install packages with apt-get (http://linux.die.net/man/8/apt-get) and I suggest you do the same). To use apt-get you will need to click the "Launch as Fake Root" checkbox. A good place to start is to do:
Then start working. If you find out that something you need is not installed, just apt-get it. To install less, do this:
apt-get install less
That is pretty obvious, but sometimes it is not. You can use a search engine (like google to help you out). For example, I found out to install R, I should do this:
apt-get install r-base
You can also search for packages using
apt-cache search some_keyword
A very popular package to add right away is this one:
apt-get install build-essential
This gets you setup to run the make and compile steps of many SW projects.
Xdroid can be used with multiple window managers, and can be used over the internet from remote locations. So far, it has been tested with xfwm, Compiz and Xmonad. Feel free to update me if you get it to work properly with other window managers.
You will also need to install the following packages on your Linux machine:
This may still be buggy, but I have been sitting on the code for a while. If you like it but find something annoying, or just have ideas, please feel free to let me know.

This application was design for a friend, and is available on github for anyone interested.
I love my friends and programming, this has proven a great opportunity to mix the both and deliver something fun for everyone. I hope my friend enjoys this application and others can learn from its source code. <3
