The first several times I tried to set up the plug it kept disconnecting from the network. The telephone support rep had no suggestions apart from opening up a problem ticket and telling me I'd get an email response. After reading some of the reviews I decided to turn off cellular communications. That did the trick. I was able to activate the device and use it with Alexa.
I'm a tech for a major Internet provider. I've set up various smart home devices. I bought the smart plug 6 months ago and everything worked fine with alexa and my android phone up until the update on 1/26/18. I tried resetting it, and reached out to their support. I had limited use with it via iPhone for 2 days then it wouldnt connect to network(2.4), nevermind using it 3rd party (alexa). I highly recommend using something other than ihome products after this experience. There is no support.
Just what the world needs, more buggy smart home apps that are the antiphony of smart. Also Since a few days ago I cannot get iHome devices to work in Wink via their shortcuts. They worked fine from the Wink lights and power page but the exact same devices do not respond if they are activated from within a Wink shortcut. Again the devices work perfectly through the Wink app if I use the lights and power page.
Update: After reading another review here, I unplugged my smart plug for a minute, reset and linked again to Google Home and that seems to have fixed the issue for now. This outdoor smart plug was working fine with Google assistant & Alexa. Now after the update, I can't control the switch to turn on or off with either. The Android app doesn't work neither!. Only the app on my iPad seems to still work, which is not my primary device. Very disappointed with the product, thankfully Home Depot has a great return policy.
Update Jan 2018: something happened on ihome end that caused my plug to go offline. Updated app, trying to app the plug to my ihome app and fails at last step. Looks like major bug in their cloud as wifi and device ID correct but still erroring out. Will leave it in cabinet until I hear an update from ihome. Useless until they fix their end. Note 3 with KitKat
Ihome control very buggy to begin with but now I can't get Google home to turn my switch on or off even from my phone. Which sounds like it's a server issue on their end. My internet works just fine. I even tried repairing it 4 times to my ihome account and still nothing. I can tell you one thing in the future I'm never going to buy ihome anything in the future . Not pleased.
