When it works, it's great. A few things to note of you are having trouble setting up your device: 1) Make sure you are connected to a 2.4GHz WiFi network prior to attempting setup, not 5GHz. 2) Temporarily disable "smart network switching" in WiFi setings while performing setup. -- Note to developer, please add better troubleshooting support to the app with my notes above. May be sufficient to add simple text to the "reset the device" setup page. Also, add notification in the app if the server is down, rather than simply indicating that the device is no longer connected to the cloud. I spent hours trying to troubleshoot an issue that was out of my control, and would have simply bypassed the device temporarily if I had known the server was the issue. Also, please add wigits to easily control smart plugs from my home screen. I'll update my rating to 5 stars with these improvements.
Set up with 2 Smart Plugs for controlling the lights for pets that need heat lamps. These are small 50 to 150 watt loads. Worked fine for 2 weeks and now the devices lost their mind and do not work on the schedule anymore. Also, the app shows the devices aren't connected but shown in use. How can it be not connected and in use. Furthermore one of the devices that is shown as not connected can be turned off from the app but not the other one. Experiences like this limit the IoT device market potential.
I was so excited for this feature with my smart plug. DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT OR USE THIS SERVICE, IT'S TERRIBLE. After its normal disconnecting every couple days (which was annoying, but not a deal breaker) it lost connection to the ihome app altogether. I bought this to pair with my Echo, which worked great at first, but then the smart plug started losing connection randomly. I've manually reset the plug many, many times, and it still won't connect. I keep getting told there's a firmware update, but every time I try to update it, it does NOTHING to the firmware. So now, I've got an ugly paperweight. Thanks iHome.
I had 3 units that worked flawlessly for a couple weeks and when I added a 4th it all went to $hit. Now they sometimes work and I keep getting a firmware update notice but nothing updates. So irritated. Might have to ditch these and go full z-wave.
Whatever has an Apple footprint must suck, and iHome isn't an exclusion. The Android app worked just okay while being like a stupid toddler's game, but recently after I upgraded my router, it totally stopped working & I can't add my smart plugs anymore. I've done this 100s of times cuz I'm always changing passwords or routers, but this time it's totally dead. I tried a thousand times, applied every trick I knew & talked to the useless customer service twice, but no luck. Finally, I tried adding them on my iPhone & after 2 minutes all my plugs were up & running; then I tried sharing the devices with myself so I can use them on my Android, but nothing's happening. Crazy thing is, after connecting the plugs to the internet using my iPhone & then even renaming them, I'm now able to control them via Wink app with their old names but iHome is still useless! So there's nothing wrong with my network, I know what I'm doing & the plugs work fine. It's just that these idiots don't want to & don't know how to make an Android app.
Damn thing works for a while then disconnects and can't reconnect. It's great when it works. I have Samsung S8. Took a lot of time and patience to finally get it to connect then recently disconnected again. Been trying everything and still won't connect. Ugh!
