Once setup they work pretty good. If you bought one of the ones that had the older firmware it will not update with android devices. If you call them the will send you new ones. It should also be noted that you have to turn data off of turn on airplane mode when setting them up on android devices. When in airplane mode then turn on wifi. I tried for hours to set them up and it failed every time. IHOME support explained that's how to connect them with android. After I turned off data they connected almost instantly. They work great with Google and Alexa.

I've had 5 ihome smartplugs for a couple of years now and the app has improved with every update. The smartplugs are so much better than regular timers for my lights and I have rules that are easy to set per plug or zone. The app also plays nice with Amazon Alexa which is a great bonus.

Took two attempts using a Galaxy S8. It has been working ok, I didn't have to turn off mobile data. Just followed the directions and it worked. It would be better if they created a widget so you don't have to open the app each time , so you can just press a button on your home screen and the light will turn on. Update: I setup about 3 of these devices for freinds, only issue I had was when the plug tried to connect to the 5ghz wireless connection. Connected it to the 2.4 and it worked right away. (I had to change a setting to separate the 2.4 and 5)

Apparently the new update fixed a lot of the problems I was having. I can connect the controller just fine and it doesn't crash on me. Great update!
I set up the same plug in my grandpa's house and it seemed to work ( I attributed his complaints about it to the common inability of his generation to technology) but when I tried to do one in my own house, it failed to even set up. The app isn't failing, but the inability of the plug to set up is more than frustrating. If it ever sets up I might change my review.

Just straight up doesn't work. Tried to connect 2 dozen times and it just doesn't.

Hello Peaches,
Thank you for sharing your experience. Turning off cellular data was an excellent tip. Took two attempts using a Galaxy S8. It has been working ok, I didn't have to turn off mobile data. Just straight up doesn't work. Tried to connect 2 dozen times and it just doesn't.
Frequently disconnects from network. I have 2 plugs and rarely do they work at the same time. Often offline with my Echo. I have 2 other brand of smart plugs that don't have this issue at all! Very disappointed with the product. Attempted the reset/setup multiple times to no avail. FAQs was no help!
Works well so far. I was able to connect a smart plug and a leak detector. The app has bugs though. It crashed several times during WiFi setup when it wanted the password. Then for leak detector it said successfully connected followed by unsuccessful but it looks like its connected. So I think the major issue is the app bugs, once the devices are paired they work OK.
This lousy app failed to control an expensive piece plastic, the smart plug. After several attempts to connect the plug to my network, I'll have to return it to the store as it simply won't connect to my network that I've already added 4 Google homes and several nest products. During setup the app tells me that it lost connection that I should try turning "of" mobile data. I tried it and it ended up being a pointless waste of time. Too bad I can't leave 0 stars.
Absolutely horrible. The rules simply don't work. They don't trigger and sometimes just go missing. There are many other options for smart plugs, choose something else, you won't regret it.
Easy setup, but there is no option to time the plugs for sunrise/sunset. That feature would be great and I was disappointed that it's not supported here. I guess the plugs aren't that "smart".
Tried 8 times to connect and does not work. Called tech support and got no one that answered to help. Returning plug to store not worth it
Absolute garbage. Spent over an hour try to set it up and even when mobile data was turned off kept getting the error to turn it off.
Worked well at first, but now a device I set up on my iPad doesn't appear on my android. I've tried every method of sharing access available, nothing shows up in my devices on my phone
After messing with the plug for a while I read the directions and realized that I had to be on 2.4 gig network. Works great now!
The app is terrible, buggy as hell. Couldn't connect the device to the network. The app crashes everytime it detects a previous password and you choose to use it. On a couple of devices the application hard rebooted the phone everytime we attempted to set up the device. Returning the device to Amazon and will by a GE z-wave device like all my others.
Need to turn off mobile data to add devices. Took me an hour to figure that out.
Frequently disconnects from network. Other smart plugs that I own don't have this issue.
How do you set up the black iHome mini?? I got it for Christmas but I don't know how to set it up.
Disconects from WiFi for no reason. The app does not make it east to reconnect and in fact does not do anything at all to help reconnect.
Android user- app works but Google home voice commands not working yet. Setup was not seem less. Had to try several times, turning of LTE did the trick. Contacted support several days ago without even an automated response...bad service. Update: Working with voice commands, forced to have the device name include the word 'plug'...good enough for now
Had to use iPhone Homekit to connect plugs to wifi, Android app kept failing. Using a Google WiFi hub which broadcasts the same SSID for 5 and 2.4 GHz signals. Once connected, I have to close the app each time and reopen otherwise it just spins. Google assistant seems to work fine.
TURN OFF MOBILE DATA!!! When setting up devices you MUST turn off your mobile data and only use Wi-Fi, otherwise it says connection error. Set up works fine after that. Once the device is connected you can turn data on again and the app works fine.
Sucks, cannot set up on android. Hoping I can borrow an iPhone or iPad to set up, since other people have had luck. No more I home for me. I learned my lesson.... If it caters to Apple chances are your going to have incompatibility.
Android user using Google wifi, tried outdoor where router is from a distance.. so took the plug in and tried it beside the router, plugged in, reset, entered both passwords (triple checked), tried more than 5 times and still tells me connection failed... Don't call it a smart plug when you can't even connect it... I had no problem connecting my d link plugs with ease...
I couldn't set up my smart plugs with the app then I downloaded the ios app and it worked fine. It takes three times as long to even see the devices in the android app. Why is the android version a completely useless app that just lets you see what could do if you download the ios version
Between the crappy app that provides no support for error codes and constantly tells you "the device is too far from your router" (even if it's beside the router) to the crappy smart plug (isp6x), iHome has constantly been letting me down. Avoid this app and these products, they're not worth the hassle of buying, exchanging and returning.
Awesome lack of support. Plugs were working fine and one day I wake up and they don't respond. Tried reinstalling, failure. They are in the same room as the router! Get it together. Some of us don't have the option of using ios!
Went though the smart plug setup at least 7 times and it keeps failing. I can't find the devices connecting on 2.4ghz in the Mac table of the router, but green lights are solid on the plug. Also the app seems to select a different product (freeze sensor.. ect) 4 out of 5 times even though you select the radio button for the plug device. I'm returning all products to the store for a refund. This is the worst smart product I've bought and I have about 10 other smart hone devices working with alexa.
As another user pointed out: for setup, YOU MUST TURN OFF MOBILE DATA. Thank you for the tip. Not a fan of the app and product. Usability and functionality are limited and no intuitive. Will find other Android friendly products for smart functionality.
The last couple of months it works as expected. Before that there was always something going wrong. Now it's doing good.
App is updated to latest version and everytime I open it I get the error "no internet connection" and i'm on my local wifi with internet. Tried rebooting app, my phone I dont know what to do at this point. Note 3 with KitKat
Terrible setup, dysfunctional app. Tp-link has been vastly superior.
Terrible app, only works on older versions of android. Contains dead links for support. The timer function doesn't work at all for me. All I can do is turn it on and off manually.
Crappiest app does not work sorry to say you wasted all your money on this stuff I would not even recommend going out and buying the stuff for Christmas you only be returning it make sure you save your receipts and don't ever buy anything from this company again
