Kanji UP! is an application that helps you learn to recall and write 2042 Japanese Kanji characters. It currently supports the Heisig ordering and method of study which focuses on recall of the kanji based on meaning only.

This is the full featured ad-free version.

Features:

Study Mode:

- Study Kanji by practicing them one by one.
- Information displayed: meaning, strokes, readings.
- You can enter a short story to help you remember them.
- You can practice drawing the Kanji with the option to trace over an underlay of the correct Kanji.

Quick Test Mode:

- Quiz yourself on the Kanji which you have studied.
- You are given an area to write your answer down, and can then compare your answer with the correct answer.
- After answering, you can practice writing the Kanji to re-inforce the correct writing in case of mistakes.

Scheduled Test Mode:

- When enabled, the application will automatically schedule quizzes for you based on past performance.
- Based on proven spaced-repetition algorithms which schedules problemmatic sooner, to make the most efficient use of your time, and to keep your knowledge retention high.

Study Reminders:

You can have the app remind you when it's time to study. Never again forget to do some practice drills each day!

Starred List:

Add problematic Kanji to your starred list for later review with the tap of the star symbol.

Stroke Orders:

At any time a Kanji is displayed, you can tap on it to see stroke order animations. Three speeds of animation are available under Settings.

Important Note: If you are upgrading from the lite version, note that stories you entered in the lite version won't copy over automatically. Please use the backup function under settings to save a copy of your current stories, and then use the restore function in the full version after it has been installed.

Great app, very polished and the best one I've seen on the store

Does the job and Easy to Use. [updated May 2015] Kanji UP is my ONLY tool, and I have not seen anything else come close. It works perfectly with Heisig's system. Plus it shows you an animation of how to draw the kanji. Really a great program. ________________ The upgrade provides a way to mark problem cards. So now I can easily browse those annoying ones only _________________ Another addition is the ability to import and export. If you already have memory aid stories saved, for example at KanjiKohii, then you can export memory aids from KanjiKohii and import them directly into KanjiUp! Suggestions? Not really. This is the best Heisig based flashcard system, and I think I have tried them all.

Great App I loved the app, it had helped me remember 342 kanji. However, may I recommend adding a repetition-based system, preferably for the incorrect answers, or a port to other flashcard apps like Anki. Overall it was a great app, and I feel that the developers are doing a great job. I would love it if you added an overall kanji test that has been learnt or something along that line, but other than that, I hope you consider this, and well done developers! Keep up the great work!

What i wanted! This app offers almost everything i wanted in a Kanji Stroke order teaching app. I love the simple animations and i love the testing method of your skills, as well. I cannot vouch for the perfection of the stroke order for every kanji, because i am only at grade 2, so i know only about 150 of them. The ones i do know are perfectly animated. The one thing I'd love if it could be added to the app, is sorting the kanji by Grade or JLPT, rather than just Heisig. Otherwise it's truly a fantastic little app!!!

Good app This app is good. No need to refer to the book to know how to write a Kanji. However, the animations are too fast to remember those strokes' orders. If you could add: number and direction next to strokes, and a little Kanji to refer to while watching the animation in the Review mode, that would be great.

Thanks for this great and fin study aid. I love this app. I've used anki before, but I like this app better. I can practice writing the kanji. With anki sometimes I had the idea of the primitives, but wasn't actually remembering how to write them correctly. The only change I would suggest, is the ability tho draw the characters in review mode. Perhaps tracing over the provided kanji. My kids like to grade me during my test or watch the animation and draw the kanji themselves. Also, I appreciate apps that don't require permissions. Thanks.
