'Personal Sunrise' is a dawn simulator for Android devices. It helps to wake up more easily in the morning, as your body prepares for wakeup due to the increasing light of the display.
Wikipedia says "Dawn simulation is a technique originally developed to help treat seasonal affective disorder, but can be used as a soundless alarm clock to wake up the body naturally. Typically, the treatment involves timing lights in the bedroom to come on gradually, over a period of 30 minutes to 2 hours, before awakening.". WakeLight offers you several configuration options for the light simulation (sequence length, brightness curve, min/max brightness) and the sound (alarm sound, snooze timing and sound) in combination with the comfort of periodic alarm templates (with single-alarm removal), and of course single-alarm times. See the pictures. This app is very handy when you're travelling: take your dawn simulation with you!
It was intended to be used with tablets of at least 7 inches, but I have enough positive feedback of users with even smaller devices to be able to state it can be good to try with such a small device.It depends on your light sensitivity, of course, and the brightness of your environment - but you will be astonished as it works subconscious. Just try, I think you will not regret it.

A few words concerning privacy: 'Personal Sunrise' does not collect any data and does neither use nor require a network! To play an (optionally) chosen radio stream, and (optionally) the weather forecast, you need to install the free plugin. The only data that is sent by my app is your location (latitude/longitude) if required for the weather forecast - you can even manually enter them and fake the last one or two decimals of the data if you like.
Studies show that it's not the total length of sleep but the amount of complete sleep cycles what is important. Use the default values or tweak the settings to fit your personal needs.

2) AMOLED screens: We have tested Twilight on an AMOLED screen for 2.5 years without any sign of depletion or over-burning. If properly configured Twilight causes less light emission (by enabling dimming) with more equal light distribution (dark areas of the screen such as the status bar get tinted). This may in fact increase your AMOLED screen life time.

In the middle of the process it can play birds sound, and if you didn’t wake up 1 minute after alarm time, it plays a strong sound to be sure you don’t miss. During the night we pass through multiple phases of light and deep sleep mixed with brief periods of awakening and REM sleep (the sleep stage when dreaming occurs). Those stages change at different points each night for different people. When you are woken up in the morning, it is best that this happens during a light sleep phase or when you are already almost awake. Being woken up from deep sleep is a stressful experience, which can explain why there are mornings when you feel especially sleepy and tired.
This app tries to improve the quality of your sleep by monitoring your sounds and movements during the night and gently waking you up in the last half hour before the set alarm time - if it senses that you are in a light sleep phase or even awake for a short moment and not letting you get into deep sleep again just before the alarm rings.
