Don't waste your money... Pics look nice, app is pretty lame actually. If you are looking for something where you can take an overlay image (satellite photo, blueprint, etc) and walk around and map WiFi AP signal strengths, then this app is terrible at delivering that. The photos tell a different story, here is why I say don't waste your money: 1) you can take a satellite photo or overlay or whatever for your survey, but the data points that you gather have nothing to do with the image they are overlayed on! There is no setting or feature to allow you to control the SCALING or registration of the image. The datapoints used to generate the heatmap have NO CORRELATION to the image the heatmap is generated over. You would think that at least the google maps satellite image they would be able to scale the GPS location info appropriately, but it is not even close. Useless really... 2) You must manually select the AP you want to sample and then PRESS + to add a sample point. You can't just walk around and sample all the AP's and signal levels in an area. You must select the AP by MAC address and manually add each datapoint it gathers. Imagine if you have a building with a wireless mesh and lots of AP's to test!
For the price, I expected more No updates since 2012. That says it all. This software uses a well tested method to gather samples. A floor plan is displayed, user selects thier physical location on map, adds sample. It works in commercial settings where we cannot trust GPS reception for the efficacy of our findings. However, the heat map lacks precision and always assumes a signal continues past ones sample area. You must litterally survey the entire displayed area. No improvements made or effort to improve user expirence. Abandoned.
Very satisfied I found the app slightly counterintuitive, but once I figured out the mapping process it worked fine and generated a heat map with no problem. I was able to heatmap my old AP and compare its coverage to the new AP I just installed, and visualize the increased coverage range easily. I also found a few dead spots in the coverage that I need to address as well.
Forces google earth maps It would be nice to not gave to be forced to include google earth imagery onto my floor plan. My location does not have high resolution Google earth imagery so it just makes a mess out of the map. Uninstalled.
Excellent This app did exactly what I wanted it to do. Would be nice to be able to hit a button and have it collect a bunch or samples over a small specified time interval and then average the results rather than just collecting one sample for a given position. I think this would average out some of the error to obtain more accurate results.
I like it. This is a great little app towards finding the strong and weak areas of your home network. I'm sure there could be many ideas towards improvements and wish lists. Two that come to mind for me is being able to wipe out all points if you choose to, and the other would be for the tablet to automatically scan in the points as you walk around. This might be done by a combination of reading the gps points and marking the points at certain intervals along the way.
