Very reliable I've had this for approximately six months now and so far it's been very reliable. I consider myself a "techie" and had no issues setting up new devices. I must admit however that the app takes some getting used to. Only wish they supported "landscape" mode. Overall I'm satisfied with the app.
I find the SmartThings app very intuitive, from SHM dashboard, to home (rooms/things/family), to automations and marketplace. 'My Home' is organized fairly well, and I can navigate pretty easily to do things in whatever room I'm in. Updates to app have made it much more stable over time. I can't remember the last time I've had any issues with it (use it multiple times per day). Unlike other solutions, ST is an open platform and I was easily able to get my Xfinity Home devices (switches/thermostats) transferred over to my ST system with some custom device type handlers and I can use them in the app just like any other thermostat/switch. This system has been very convenient for our family, and I can't imagine not having it!
Major location service problems since Nougat (Update: the fix listed below in the reply does seem to fix the issue described here. Make sure you turn off battery optimization for the Smartthings app) After the Nougat update, presence detection on the mobile app no longer works. You must manually go into the Smartthings app and then sometimes it will auto-disarm, but even then it normally requires you to manually click on disarm and then you have to go and cancel each siren. Sirens therefore go off every time we come home.
Worthless Very unstable Update. Moths later and things are worse. Only crash 25 or 30 times today. The only way to keep it from crashing is not to use it. My old x10 system was more reliable then this. There is no support with the product or the app bY chat or phone only email. So expect at least 3 or 4 days to fix even a minor issue. No documentation on how to use this product the only way to find out is to ask other people's who who owned it via their community forum. absolutely ridiculous and getting worse.
As always, well done Every app has her quirks. These quirks magnify when the app controls daily functions of your home. The folks at ST are continually improving not only the app, but the system as a whole. There are lots of bad reviews about ST out there, but they are, if anything, always improving. Keep with them; they won't disappoint.
This will be awesome when it works! It's not there yet though. Reliability needs to be greatly improved! I will add more stars for improvements. 08/10/16 - my lights have worked perfectly for the last two days after weeks of problems.
