Never ever buy a smartthings sensor, arrival sensor or basically anything other than the hub. All their products are absolute trash that has long reset times, failures, and really are completely unbecoming of a company like Samsung. They replaced two arrival sensors for me and two motion/multi sensors and guess what 6 months later all of them don't work again, won't even power on, or connect or reset. As for this app, the organization of where things are is awful and complicated and the presence sensing for the phone never works ever and its a Samsung Note8 that it's on so...... I love the platform and hate the products. Oh good they replied to tell me they are sorry the smartthings sensors don't work.... maybe you could I don't know work on one that doesn't fail after 6 months and has some of the worst reviews of any product on Amazon and then give those fixed products to the customers that wasted their money on them. People just buy ecolink motion sensors and or iris door contact sensors. They just work and don't have expensive batteries that you can't find in regular stores etc. Now if only someone would make an arrival sensor that worked this platform may not be just an expensive semi useless toy..... Oh and whatever happened to the app for the galaxy gear s3 watch they promised...... as soon as something else comes that delivers on the promises smartthings failed at this platform is dead.
Sometimes it gets better, and often it gets worse. No big gripes (for now)...
New to SmartThings hub about a week ago. After a learning curve with the app, I have my programming & preferences in place and everything seems stable. Would like more customization options on the dashboard, including smaller icons to fit more favorites (assuming I haven't overlooked something). Still looking for a way to incorporate additional phones as presence sensors without installing this app on them (e.g., simple client app).
This really is a bad UI. Very unintuitive. I have figured it out and am able to accomplish what I want, but there is no chance the others in my home would be willing to learn and use this product. If it weren't for the Alexa integration, my family wouldn't even know there is home automation at work. This is a tinkerers tool, not a consumer's interface.
Smart Things is a complete POS. I have had the system for about 3 years now and it has never worked correctly for more than two days in a row. I hoped it would eventually get better, but just continues to get worse with each "Update". Now for the last couple of days all scheduled events are happening 12 hours off. AM/PM. I wish I had never wasted my money!
Had the system for about a year now. It doesn't do great with Z-wave devices, losing connection and reporting incorrect status. And lately my simplest routine of "turn this thing off at this time and back on at this time" has started to malfunction. It makes analog Christmas tree timers more reliable. Hopefully it gets better.
We've been hard at work making the SmartThings app better for you. Here's what's we have been working on:
