Did well, until started to crash This app was my main choice for Japanese dictionary, but now I can no longer use it because it keeps crashing every time I want to see an entry. Please fix it. I'm using Android L 5.0.2

The best... But keeps crashing on my phone It's hands down the best jisho I ever tried on Android, works like a charm on my tablet, but now keeps crashing on my phone (xiaomi mi note), can you please fix this? And I will give back 5 stars as it deserves!

The best Japanese dictionary on Android! Finally - a worthy Japanese dictionary, and a solid contender to similar apps available only on the iPhone. This app should definitely get more exposure! I could think of only two things that should be added: 1. Transitive and intransitive verbs should be linked to one another. For example, the intransitive verb 乗る should be linked to its transitive mate - 乗せる. 2. Kana table should have animations, to show how each kana should be written.

Found App on Reddit. Looks Pretty! Works well! Great app! Easy to use and has a great layout. I appreciate you taking the time to get feedback from Reddit users as well! My only Feedback for you is to find a word to add to the title, to give it some Unique identifier, making it easier to find SEO wise. Otherwise, NO COMPLAINTS!

5 star app I would give this 5 stars, but it crashes every time I try to install the update. Also it only seems to want to update over WiFi, even though none of my other Apps have this problem. Had to uninstall/re-install to make it work.

Finally! Been looking for an Android jisho that is as good as one I used from the Apple app store a few years back (the ONLY thing I miss from iPhone). This one is pretty dang close. WAY better than the other crappy ones I've come across before this.

Everyday Life Saver Recently moved to Japan and this really comes in handy in everyday situations. The built-in Kanji stroke demo feature is really helpful and the best part is that I can use it even offline. Crashes occur more frequently than I would like and the Kanji handwriting search needs a bit more work but other than that, this app is amazing.
Effing case sensitivity! Edit: just realized the entire app is case sensitive. Throw a cap in & it doesn't work for searches. Keyboard auto caps the beginning of each sentence. Sighs. First I thought it didn't have a good dict (tried looking up umai) then I thought it didn't support romanji. Then I realized the not so quite obvious when I clicked around and saw in help it allows romanji. My main apps will stay as Akebi and Jsho. App is otherwise great. Font could be bigger in sentences & search results. Excellent example sentences.
My favourite dictionary This is easily my favourite Japanese English dictionary. The reason I have not rated it 5 stars is because I cannot input kana or kanji using the Swype keyboard (I'm not sure if it can be done on other keyboards), and the handwriting feature isn't that good. It took me ten tries to input 太 using the correct stroke order.
Great app, just missing a few things Been using this app a ton as I go through my Japanese class. It's fantastic as a reference for almost anything I need: stroke orders, sentence usage, alternate kanji, etc. The only issue I have is that some words are missing every once in a while - typically certain onomatopeaia words are missing that I hear in songs I like. No big deal, as I can just Google them separately. Anyway, I certainly recommend this to anyone learning!
Better than Google Translate! I'm in Japan right now and I've been struggling with Google translate. In 5 minutes of using this one is already blown away Google. You can search using romanji so you don't have to download a J-keyboard. Search results show kanji, hiragana, and the definition. You can search kanji based on radicals.
Handwriting recognition isn't very good. It couldn't even recognize a simple kanji like 相 and kept suggesting to me things like 理 and 朋 which look nothing like it. And it would also be better to put the ad at the bottom of the page, it's less distracting that way. Also, the "copy reading/meaning" function doesn't work; no matter which I pick, it always just copies the kanji and not even the hiragana it might be attached to.
Absolutely Brilliant and Simple! This application is very useful for me with utilising the Kanji characters accurately, but I find the audio a bit annoying to deal with. Naturally, I listen to the sound a few times, then use some Roumaji translator to decypher what it sounds like. If I would recommend one improvement to this software, I would recommend adding a Roumaji and Hiragana text translation option and a "syllable-to-syllable" audio function. Also, this application needs some "common phrase" translations. Otherwise, it is fantastic!
Loved it best for study This app is very good to study japnese advance levels like n2 and n1....i am using it for n1 and the best thing is u dont have to find in categories....it will automatically show you the verbs noun proverbs etc.with the perfect example sentences and sentences have the hiragana too so useful.....best but not that good for dictinory and kanjis....thank u
Has great potential but too unstable This is easily one of the best Japanese dictionary apps on Android. If it had the ability to do quizzes or flash cards, it would equal my favorite Japanese study iOS app. Unfortunately, constant crashes, particular after doing a search and clicking a result, ruins things. Fix the crashes and it's a 5 star app.
Needs improvements This dictionary app is not so great. Needs lots of improvements. For example, it needs a 'common word' filter. It's annoying and time-consuming to have to scroll through so many uncommon definitions to find a common, everyday word. Also, verb conjugation lists are incomplete. Where are all the negative, progressive, passive, etc conditionals? Plus, all those sentence examples are just impractical, worthless public domain material. I cannot recommend this app. Free JSHO dictionary app is much, much better.
Best Android dictionary, but with one glitch... This dictionary has kanji drawing recognition built in, and has the basic features you'd expect making it the best overall for Android in my opinion. However, I encountered a glitch where touching the "components" button makes my phone return to the home screen. The second or third time it works properly but it is an annoyance. Also, if a kanji recognition via camera was a feature like on a couple other apps, this would really put it a step above all others.
One of the best J-E dictionary apps around but... Great dictionary app, no question about that. However, the handwritten character recognition is beyond crap. It's a complete crap shoot if it recognizes the character properly or not. This is inexcusable at this point. My Chinese dictionary app, Hanping Pro, recognizes handwritten characters correctly pretty much 100% of the time. Just copy whatever software they use!
Favorite offline dictionary, I like: the GUI, the example sentences, inflections, Hiragana etc. Suggestions: - It's crashing quite often, please track down those buffer overflow and segfaults with Valgrind or Dr memory! - I will have to switch to another dictionary because I can't easily export the words (especially to Ankidroid). At least add a "copy all" button or a "share button" that copy everything (meaning+hiragana+translations) - Change the name of the app, any search on google about this app is a hassle since it can't be distinguished with the billion other searches about Japanese. - Consider releasing it open source, or make a premium version. It's frustrating not to be able to participate to the dev knowing the app is not even making profit ^^ Great job, hope you'll find time to update the app some time soon, otherwise you should really consider a gitHub release.
It's OK, but not even close to the best This used to be the best Japanese-English dictionary available for Android, but it's rarely updated (last update 2 YEARS AGO!). So while it has a nice layout, it hasn't kept up as competing apps quickly & continuously improve. AEDICT3, for example, offers everything this app has, plus multiple dictionaries, a flexible attractive GUI, multiple input options, a myriad of import/export methods, add-on functions, and consistent updates from a responsive developer. This app seems ultra-generic by comparison!
Best Android dictionary out there Definitely the best of the bunch. Comprehensive and easy to use. Two comments: handwriting recognition is pretty unusable, but the other kanji lookup methods make up for this. Second, I love the tagging feature but am wondering if there is a way to export the lists to anki or some other flashcard application. Thank you!
Needs just a little more It's a great dictionary for Kanji, but it'd be infinitely better if I could write out Hiragana and Katakana in the handwriting area. Only some Hiragana show up, and some absolutely will not pop up. At least I can easily get results typing Romanji but it doesn't make for good immersion practice.
please add compatibility i loved the app..its wonderfull.. but problem is that i had a custom 4.4.4 rom on my HTC amaze and the app worked now that i changed the rom the app is simply not compatible..i am running 4.0.3 currently but i keep on chenging according to need..please add full compatibility for all the phone models..ill be much thankfull Thanks
I want to give 5 stars, but... Handwriting recognition is horrible, I'd never use it again. I could still using another app though, so it's okay. The UI is nice and clean! But It'd be lovely if you could improve the UI to be more colorful and pretty, but nah, do i ask too much? Overall it's a great job and this app is better than any dictionaries out there on Play Store. And oh, please add another word besides 'Japanese' to the title, to specify the app more lol
Finally - the Japanese English dictionary I have been waiting for This along with "Remember the Kanji" are the only apps I have been missing since I stopped using iPhone/iPad a couple of years ago. Thanks for coming up with this - I just love it. It is still not totally without flaws, of course, and does crash quite often when I switch between apps on my Nexus 5, but hey, I can live with that! Again, so happy it was finally launched here!
Good app The kanji recognition is very bad and needs improvement. Other than that the app is fantastic. It is user friendly, easy on the eyes (unlike many apps), and has a very large dictionary. I like how it has the categories so I can search for specific kind of words. Please fix the kanji recognition and I will rate a 5
Better than expected! Sony Xperia Z3C - One of the best dictionaries I ever seen. The categories and builtin tags helps a lot in search and learning. The search is amazing, with a powerful recognition, helpful animated stroke order and tons of compounds. Best free app in years. The handwriting have some flaws sometimes, but is still ok, just using my keyboard handwriting.
Very good It has everything it needs to make an excellent dictionary. Example phrases for words, compound words for kanji, easy and efficient navigation and lists by JLPT levels. Everything I was looking for. Handwriting recognition is indeed poor, but searching by radical is better for learning anyway. My only complaint is it can't be moved to SD, for an app this large it would be useful. Great work, thank you!
