Choose, don't boycott The app makes it seem that palm oil is some evil substance that should be boycotted. It's actually one of the the most efficiently produced vegetable oil in terms of plant species. The destruction and unsustainable forestry practices are the problem. Search for products with sustainable palm oil, don't just boycott. And if you find something with an alternative oil, you better check that the new substance isn't just as bad.
Settings? Love the concept and most of the app itself. However when I try to go to settings it is unresponsive. I understand that sounds can reinforce that something does or does not contain palm oil, but I do not want to walk around a store with my phone constantly sounding like a chainsaw or a cheering crowd. @Danielle: There are a surprising number of names for palm oil so not all products that contain it list the ingredient as "palm oil". Hope that helps.
Wonderful tool! This app is such a great tool for shopping! Thanks for the time and effort to get it up there and maintain! Id like to know because sometimes it says palm oil detected, but none of the ingredients are on the list of other names for palm oil. I would love if the app displayed what ingredient was found. Also would love if there was a searchable list of palm oil free products by category. It would be a huge timesaver at the store in addition to the scanner.
True? I'm avid about not buying palm oil products. Some items I bought do not say palm oil on the label but the app says it detects palm oil. I know some companies get around the loop hole of not having to label right, but it makes me wonder. But thanks for making an app to bring awareness. Please be accurate. Side note: If it states it detects palm oil can you tell me why? (So I know what other names I should be looking for.)
Save the Earth!! Our animal friends need th rain forest take a stand.
Sustainable palm oil is BS No such thing as sustainable palm oil due to the slash & burn method of harvesting. DO YOUR RESEARCH! This app could use help expanding the database. Maybe allow users to upload photos and ingredients lists?
