Android app and for that matter iOS app doesn't work. Keep getting network timeout error, status 500. This happens on trying to access hive, other folders and share rooms. Dec 2017 update : Finally new version. Looks like team spent time changing colors. Would have been more useful to actually work on the apps function. Still same time out errors - as useless as it has been. Share rooms seems to work okay.
Great concept. Would be helpful if the app actually let you log into your account. The app just hangs up on authentication. Can't use it to access my account on either device running Android 5.0 and Android 7.0. If I can't access it, does that mean that the government can't either? Would give zero stars b/c what's the point if you can't access your files? Want more space but will not pay a dime for a service that DOES NOT WORK.
US based and no 2FA mean wavering faith, however what faith there is focuses on the zero knowledge promise. Really good hive feature, reliable backups and great linux support - unlike Tresorit on the last two subjects. File versioning means protection against ransomware too. However, the app itself is quite poor with directory contents often not appearing and a number of other minor defects, reducing the overall app score. Use the website!
There's been mention that no upload is available on mobile. I can live with that. What is weird is that it doesn't seem to automatically sync particular folders/files to your android, you have to pick what files to download and when (and they are saved to a /downloads folder). I just used DropBox to sync a encrypted password database. I can still use SpiderOak for that, but I'm going to have to remember to redownload the file everytime it changes. On the plus side, the android app only requests the permissions it legitimately needs (network and file access) and not the extraneous stuff Dropbox requires (in-app purchases, your social contacts, and camera access).
Resting on their laurels? Same as everyone else: No uploading from app, no 2-FA options, have had multiple issues with downloads hanging and/or the app freezing. Sigh... without any direct communication as to why these features are not available, my subscription dollars are looking for greener pastures.
There is an annoying behavior. I installed the app but removed the shortcut on my screen. Now the isn't listed in my local apps, BUT if I go to the Appstore It shows as installed and I can open it. I had to uninstall and install it again. Same behavior, since I blocked applications from creating the shortcuts. How the hell should I access the app without the damn shortcut?
