The music selection frm Spotify is great, and the generated playlists are fantastic. The issue is the app cannot sustain itself in offline mode. You stop the music for ~5 minutes and you have to start the app over essentially as it loses your place in the playlist and song. It also has poor integration for external controls I've found as my vehicles can start the music on it forcing me to do it from the phone urself.
I have been using this app for almost three years now. Its a very reliable and convenient source for music, podcasts and some videos. Also, discounts such as the student discount, where your Premium monthly payment is reduced from $10 a month to $5 by registering an account with a student email, makes the app very cost-effective. Otherwise, Spotify does not require you to pay to access music, you just have ads play every so often. But Spotify premium not only allows you to have no ads but also gives you the ability to download and listen to music on the go. Pair it up with the student discount, the ability to download music onto three devices, and no ads, and its worth the $5 a month!
I would give Spotify 5 stars, but the recent bug that doesn't allow Spotify to show up on the lock screen or pull down menu of my Android has LARGELY affected my interaction with the interface in a negative light. It was really a downgrade in user friendliness. Other than that, I adore Spotify's organization, song recommendations, and general layout. However, they meed to restore accessing the app via lock down screen and pull down menu for androids.
I originally got Spotify Premium for 99¢ for three months as part of a special promotion and it was so good I actually bought Spotify Premium. Spotify is great now and it was still really good when I didn't pay for it. Spotify has such a good variety of music (and you can download songs with Premium). It's the closest thing to just buying songs to put on your phone, but it's even better than that since there's opportunities to listen to artist radios, individual artists (you have to pay for that on Pandora), and even songs recommended for you by Spotify. Even if you don't get Premium, Spotify is the best app to listen to music with.
Before downloading this, I had it on iOS. When I use this Spotify I like seeing related artists and looking for new music in the Browse/Discover area. One thing I loved about Spotify was the feature to be able to press and hold a random song/artist and have a small snippet of a song. It was cool because I could find new artist this way. Now since I'm on Android I can't use this feature.. A feature that was on iOS for well over 2 years. Sad that Spotify doesn't show as much love to Android as they do with iOS
Spotify was good in the beginning. I could listen to songs whenever but recently I've been getting very mad at it. In the beginning I only had to listen to one ad and it will continue to play music, now I have to listen to three before the music starts again. Not only that but it just start playing random songs in a playlist of over 20 songs that I don't want to listen to. Also whenever a song start it doesn't play unless I go into the app and pause and play the song again for it to continue. This doesn't make me want to get premium, it only makes me want to stop using this app and I will if this continues.
