Alphabear is an original word puzzle game by Spry Fox, the developer of the award winning game Triple Town.
In Alphabear, you spell words by selecting letters on a grid. When you use letters that are adjacent to each other, bears appear! The more letters you use, the bigger the bear gets, and the more points you earn!
When your score is high enough, you'll also win a bear for your permanent collection. These bears can be used as powerups in future games! They increase the points you earn, extend your timer, increase or decrease the frequency with which letters appear on the game board, and more.

Addictive loner play. Versus could use work I like this game. It's fun and adorable, but I would like to see a better way to challenge my friends than posting to facebook or sending emails/texts. Other games like Trivia Crack figured this out perfectly. A group of us regularly play together because it's simple to just click on their names, and they get a notification on their phone that there is a challenge waiting. I won't be playing much verses until there is a better way to invite people to a challenge.

Creative It's like a whole new way to scrabble solo! I'm addicted! The game can be paused if your at work, then pick back up when it's convenient! I would love you earn coins and honey other ways then paying. I want to be able to collect all the bears not just increase power on a couple of the same ones all the time.

I love this game. At first i used it just to waste time. But my 4 yr old son started playing with me and I think its a great tool for him to practice both his alphabet identification as well as spelling. In the beginning I would spell the words and he would type the letters in, but now that we've been playing for a few weeks he is able to find more and more of his own words!

Great Play But Too Exponential Game play and variety is fantastic. Very fun and varied. Quickly bought the unlimited honey option to enable more play. But the difficulty ramps up at such a steep slope relative to the bears' bonuses that it becomes impossible to pass thresholds without ideal play and the best bears. This means I need to wait 12 hours for refresh, or use coins to reawake or acquire more bears. Id be ok with this but even a chance to get a bear would be $5. This is a really high price for the value.

Cute Concept, But Difficulty Escalates Quickly The game is adorable, and I love collecting all of the cute bears and using their abilities. It's a word game with a fresh twist. Unfortunately however the difficulty level goes up exponentially very quickly. I recommended the game to a younger sister (like junior high level), and it was fairly difficult for her to keep up. Even with me being generally decent with word games, this game got too challenging too quickly. Somewhat disappointed. =/

I'M OBSESSED. The bears are adorable, the gameplay is seamless. Definitely a good brain workout to be addicted to. It would be even cooler if, after each level, it shows what words could have been made with the letters available, with the words being links that, when clicked or tapped, show the definition, to make it educational and expand one's vocabulary as well! Plspls! :D

You're right that the game gets harder with each chapter. But there are players who have made it through all 11 published chapters--it is doable! You may have to level up your bears more if you're finding a particular chapter to be too hard. I'M OBSESSED. The bears are adorable, the gameplay is seamless. I love it Its a cute word game. I like how you can collect different bears, level up previously collected bears, and actually use them to affect your game. You also don't need an extensive vocabulary. My only complaint is how little I get actually to play. I don't get enough of the currency to cover enough playtime to last my lunchbreak, but I don't wanna waste money on a word app.
Fun timerless game; doesn't nag for money Alphabear is pretty easy (takes a while to get tough). The bears sleep and you can pay money to wake, but I never felt that I needed to. Most levels have no timer so you can guess words (and maybe learn something). There are timer levels for more challenge.
This game is designed to be get your money two ways. You have to have honey to play levels and coins to get better bears. Only, the "hourly coin bonus" doesn't really work... it usually triggers 2x daily, at best... so without ponying up cash, you won't be able to really get full enjoyment out of the game. Pass on this one.

My guess is that you're misunderstanding how the Hourly Coin Bonus works. Coins accumulate all the time, but you can only collect them when 6 or more hours worth of coins have accumulated. Somewhat frustrating when you're really close to getting the second objective :) you need to wait to get more honey which lets you play the stages, but with unlimited honey for £4, I am quite tempted to get that! There is also in game currency which allows you to reuse bonuses sooner, but I haven't actually used that.
Free play sucks Fun game, but it sucks you can only play a couple games a day for free. If only they hadn't gone with such a restrictive free to play policy... Haven't we learned from Valve that the best way for people to give you their money in free to play is to make the experience as fun as possible? Why ruin that trying to make a few pennies off of me?

To clarify, in the free version you regain 1 honey every 90 seconds, up to a cap of 120. That's 960 honey per day if you play at optimal efficiency. The most expensive events cost 100 honey (others cost less), which comes out to more than a couple of games per day. Fun way to spend a few minutes This is a really entertaining game, and if you're just playing for a couple minutes its great. Long term play means you have to deal with microtransactions though. There's an option to watch an ad in exchange for the ingame currency too, but this might be seen as an annoyance to some people. Regardless, fun game. If you want something quick and challenging, download this.

To clarify for those who aren't familiar with the game, a free player is still able to play the game without paying after his honey (energy) runs out--he just has to take a break while the honey recharges. Alphabear doesn't permanently cut off free players like a demo app might attempt to do. Polished Yet Lacking A fun highly polished game with a quirky style. Alphabear has charm but lacks depth, getting repetitive and grindy fast. Found myself lacking motivation to play. A few ideas for improvement could be the addition of a story mode and leaderboards (maybe tied to a weekly challenge). Fun to play on the go but little replayability. Good for players who want something simple and stress free.
This game is cute, fun, and addictive, so I purchased it. And yet after paying $5 I still have to wait a day before I play the next level?? That's completely stupid. Play this, but don't bother buying it. What good is unlimited honey when you have to play the same 2 levels over and over??
Y do you need permission to my photos Absolutely love this game. I Usually don't do reviews but this one deserved it. First, it's absolutely beautiful. Second, it's not addicting to the point where your annoyed. It's challenging but not impossible. It's very fun and can't believe how much I like it. But how do I play without giving permission to access my photos? And why is that necessary, take it out, you don't need that permission.

We request the permission to access photos because without it the sharing of bearaphrases doesn't work correctly. Addicting and cute I always delete games shortly after losing interest but I plan on continuing this one for a long time. My only critique is that the game's vocabulary should be updated/extended because there have been a couple times where I tried legitimate words and they were not accepted.

If there's something we definitely have wrong, please email support@spryfox.com a screenshot of the word being played and we'll look into it. I LOVE the concept of this game, but I would love it more and would play it more often if it didn't relegate you to an offline game mode. It sucks not being able to play the campaigns while I'm commuting on train with no cell reception. Also, while selecting your bears before a stage, the game doesn't always seem responsive when I click on a bear. Not a huge deal, but it's just a small pain point that could be improved on.
The game freezes up sometimes, but other than its fun, innovative, keeps you on your toes, and I never grow bored of it. I would recommend it to people who have kids, so their kids can have fun and learn at the same time. You don't get a lot of games that are kid-friendly and educate at the same time!
Game overall runs great on a nexus 7. Had one issue where game stopped too soon with time still available and some valid words were not accepted. These happen very rarely, and the game overall is fantastic. Update: Restarted playing after a year and alphabear recovered my account. However, after about a few weeks my entire progress was deleted. Downgraded rating to three stars.

Not enough unique daily challenges or maybe it's glitch where I can't unlock the 2nd chapter boss. Different types of bears seems limited, but I assume it's a mechanic rather than cosmetic. Also there needs an area where the bears hang out.

I'm having so much fun with this game - I love collecting different bears, and figuring out which bears are gonna help me win. I spent the $4.99 for the unlimited honey because I just can't get enough of playing... definitely worth the money in my opinion!
Cute and engaging I like it, it's a gentle distraction but makes your brain work a little bit. Play is slowed down unless you are prepared to spend real-life money - but we know to expect that. Lovely muted colour scheme 😊
Definitely a fan - however, URGENT ISSUE Simple concept, remarkable depth - level 10 completion required a strategy with my bear choices (as well as one good word and leveling said bears just a bit). There is a problem, though - the end of daylight savings time means I can't log in at the moment due to clock issues. :-(

Can't play offline It's a good game, and running smoothly when I'm online. But when I tried to play offline, it said "please correct your phone clock and try to connect the internet later". My phone's time is fine, and I tried to fix it when I'm online but it still didn't work. It a shame really, I really like this game. And I want to play it too when I have no internet connection :(

The game has to be played online every so often so it can check in with the server and confirm the date/time. Please play a game online, then return to offline mode and see if offline mode is still giving errors. If so, please email support@spryfox.com and we'll try to help you from there. Really cute little game. No annoying ads but the possibility to gain some extra honey or bear money by watching some. The bears run out of honey pretty fast so it is not a game that keeps one occupied for a long time but that is perfectly fine imo. I really enjoy this game - it is fun, cute & entertaining. :)
Error with Google play login Played the game to chapter 2. Then I was disconnected from Google play. I am unable to pay now because I get an error saying I can't be logged in. There is nothing on the faqs sheet that explains this. I tried to reinstall and connect to Google fresh. But same error

You go through the game collecting bears such as the unicorn bear and a panda bear and many more. There's even a challenge event where you can challenge someone and see who gets the most points. I believe downloading this game is a great choice 🐻🐨🐼
Too Many Adverts The artwork and music is very satisfying. The purpose of the bears is somewhat unclear, plus the reset timers are hours long. It's a fun, challenging game, but you'll spend more time watching adverts to play the game than you will spend playing it.
This game is good. However, even if you pay for unlimited honeycomb you're still hogtied on how often you can play because bears sleep, sometimes for half a day! It's ridiculous. I paid money to play this game but I can only play every 2 hours? Nonsense! Remove this for paying players and this app will be a 5 star app for sure. It runs well, has good graphics and a cute concept.
Great game, awesome tech! I've been playing this game since it was named a favorite if Google, and bought the paid version. Totally worth it! Recently I got a new phone and when I installed Alphabear on it, it restarted everything. A quick email to tech support, and I've got all of my progress back! However, I usually get an error message about my clock being wrong and it closes down. Very disappointing on my long coach trip w/o wifi.

If you're able to, please capture a log of the problem by following these instructions: https://spryfox.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/218506108 . Note that there is some setup to do ahead of time, and then some steps to do when the problem occurs. Unfortunately you'll have to capture the log while offline but need to be online to send it. Do NOT spend money for the Infinite Honey ...or anything else in this game. It gets entirely too hard at the 3rd chapter - that is, if you're even able to get thru chapter 2. Plus the coins run out always, the bears are constantly napping, costing coins to awaken, and there are insane wait periods before you can continue with this torture. Run for the hills.

To clarify, there are many players who have gotten beyond Chapter 3. Some have even completed all 11 published chapters (each chapter increases in difficulty). You may have to level up your bears more if you're finding a particular chapter to be too hard. Its pretty cute But it perpetually stops my music, thats not too fun... Also, I was playing one of the untimed rounds of the game and used up all the letters at the beginning. Before I could even get new letters to continue playing, the system ended my game....

Sorry about the music thing--that happened when we upgraded our game engine in the most recent update. Regarding the system ending your game before you got new letters, please send us a screenshot if it happens again. The game will end if the new letters don't make a word, but you should at least get the new letters. You have to earn to play My only complaint about games like these are that you have to earn points to continue playing, either by watching videos or purchasing. I wish you could just play! Other than that, a fun game for people who love word games.
Frustrated and let down My daughter introduced me to this game. It was wonderful until daylight savings time hit. Then the game glitched so badly I had to reload it. Whereupon all my previous work was wiped out. Had to start over. This is killing me.

It's so fun and addictive! I totally recommend it. There are just some stuff that I don't understand how works, like how is the pontuaction chosen for each letter? Is there a pattern or is it randomly? Or why certain letters disappear and others don't? Why is there time to play just in some matches? A lot of stuff in the game seems random and I was curious about that. However, that doesn't take all the fun in it!

Every day, each chapter gets a new timed event and a new untimed event (and yesterday's events go away) so you can enjoy the type you prefer. However, Boss Events, Challenge Events, etc. are timed/untimed as the designer felt was appropriate. Can't stop won't stop Always new and challenging puzzles so I'm never bored. Smooth game play, no complaints. I'm happy to see a two player option and can't wait to try it! This is my favorite game app by far.
Each round costs points to play. Points build over time, but there is a cap. Depending on the day cost varies. Most days I can only play one or two rounds before having to wait for points to build up again, makes it a pain to bother playing. There are plenty of other similar word games that I can play endlessly.

To clarify, this game has an energy mechanic (honey). Non-paying players automatically regain 1 honey every 90 seconds, up to a cap of 120. That's 960 honey per day if you play at optimal efficiency. Most events cost 50 or 70 honey, which comes out to quite a few games per day, but only 2 at a time. There is an Infinite Honey product for purchase. AWESOME This is truly a great game I could not have a better and more fun word puzzle game. I myself am not a good speller but this helps me a lot. It's really cute and a easy way to learn some words.
Fun word game Been ignoring this app when playing TripleTown but finally gave in. Glad I did. The bears are really cute. Game play is pretty intuitive. Only complaint is that waiting for honey is a pain. And yes, I know you can pay for infinite honey.
