Notice: Support for Windows may or may not come, due to the nature of how security works on Windows, it's a little challenging to get it working there. Please do not leave negative reviews because Windows isn't supported.
DroidID is an Android app that lets you unlock your Mac with your device's fingerprint sensor, making it very convenient and easy for you to unlock your iMac/Macbook/Macbook Pro/Macbook Air.
DroidID unlocks your Mac when:
- Your Mac is sleeping
- Your Mac has a screensaver running
- You resume your Mac from sleep by moving the mouse or pressing a key
DroidID will not unlock your Mac when:
- On first boot-up
- When you manually lock your Mac (i.e clicking on your name on the status bar and then clicking 'Login Window....'
If you want DroidID to start up every time you start your Mac, please add the application to Login items under Users & Groups in System Preferences on your Mac
Requirements for using DroidID:
- Mac client app (can be downloaded from suyashsrijan.com/droidid). Please move the client app to your Mac's Applications folder after downloading
- Android device running Marshmallow (or above), or a Samsung device running Lollipop (or above)a
- A Mac running El Capitan (10.12) or above
Security:
DroidID takes security seriously. Your password is stored on your Mac itself, in Keychain. To verify, if you open Keychain on your Mac, you'll see an entry for "com.suyashsrijan.DroidID". You can double click it to view its properties, and it will ask you to enter your password to see the password that is stored by the app. Since Keychain encrypts everything it stores, your password is also encrypted. Your fingerprints are not stored by the app, they are only read from your phone. The app only checks your scanned fingerprint against the ones registered on your device.

I think it should be able to store more than a single fingerprint, in case that I want to use another hand to unlock the mac.

Can you update your review stars as this issue has been fixed now? I phones need this as well. It would be a shame if it didnt. Well not a shame but multiplatform would be great. Everything else is BOMB!!!!! Love this app. EDIT: its 2017 and I tried the latest version on Mac and it will not work at all. it crashes every single time. what I would recommend is you release a update and release the older version, since its working. tis would be my temporary fix, and I would do testing for the Mac app or the current version. other than that I love it. I will still see it a 5 star because when it worked, it worked well and I loved it.

Hi, this has been fixed. Please visit suyashsrijan.com/droidid to view instructions on how to reset the app & re-download the latest Mac app :) Sorry for the inconvenience. Mac client launches then closes immediately. Last version was working. Running AppCleaner and reconfiguring causes same issue.

Hi, this has been fixed. Please visit suyashsrijan.com/droidid to view instructions on how to reset the app & re-download the latest Mac app :) Sorry for the inconvenience. Sadly I have to give one star because the app simply doesn't work, on my mac (Sierra) it crashes and on my phone (galaxy s6 edge) it is stuck on the code screen even after I link the client app

Hi, this has been fixed. Please visit suyashsrijan.com/droidid to view instructions on how to reset the app & re-download the latest Mac app :) Sorry for the inconvenience. Windows Do you know windows support is now entirely possible using the companion device framework? (or Windows hello) if you Google for this, they have a demonstration app to get you started
Edit: Still having the same issues as before even after reinstalling the mac client app. Great app and works as intended. Only feedback is that if the computer was put to sleep while the last mouse click was on a text box (browser, chat messenger, word doc, etc), the user's password gets automatically typed into whatever text box the computer was last on. Seems a little dangerous and would be good if there was a way around this.

Hi, that's strange because I fixed this issue sometime back. Can you re-download the Mac client from the website and replace the existing copy of the client app on your Mac with the new one? Make sure you put the app in the Applications folder. A MUST HAVE! I have loved this app since day one. Works perfectly, no ads and delay time is just fine at least with me. This app comes incredibly handy when someone nearby asks to use your computer and you can just scan your finger right where you are for the person to log in without having to speak out your password or get up and type it yourself. Just ONE request, could there be a way to sync the phone and Mac via a user or something like that for it to log in without being connected to the same wifi network? PLEASE!
Suyash Srijan August 23, 2016
You don't have to be connected to the same WiFi network, your Mac and your phone can be on different networks or LTE/3G Works Great! After seeing your post on Reddit , I just had to give it a try! Works wonderfully, and, while there is an acceptable short delay between the scan and the password being entered, I loved it! I use it every day now, and it allows me to use a more secure password without the extra pain of entering it every time (Pro-Tip: Set it up to open on login in user preferences) . It will even awake my iMac from sleep! Overall a great free app made by a great developer, with no ads or other gimmicks. Kudos to you!
Would give 5 it doesn't work every time, the laptop stops turning on after a few fingerprints... I have to always unlink the the phone, using this on Nexus 6p and macbook pro please fix for more consistent unlocking. So far it works max 3 times of testing, and it is such a hassle that it was faster to unlock by just typing the password

Can you email me with more details? This works well for me, just not sure if it saves me any time. How do people use this app? To unlock my Mac, I have to pick up my phone, launch the app, scan my fingerprint. In that time, I could have simply typed the password into my Mac. That said, neat idea !
Amazing! Can't wait for WIndows support. Couple of points: - Wish it would support multiple Macs (and Windows when supported) - Would be nice if menu/settings etc. were available all the time. Struggled to get to them sometimes. Rating 5-stars as I'm expecting it to get better and better!
Cool app just one question? Does it work on Linux os like Ubuntu? BTW love the app no ad nice clean website as well but some issues with your main website with pictures and text combination.just a review.
EDIT: I was probably too early to give this app a 5-star rating within the first day of use. After using this for a few days, I can say that it is hit or miss at the best. Please note that I do understand that it won't work to unlock the mac right after a boot and am not talking about that. I am talking about more general situations, when my mac is sleeping. Have particularly noticed this doesn't work when the Mac has been in a long sleep. I would say it works 5/10 times flawlessly. So, I am sorry but I can't give this a 5-star anymore. To the developer's comment below: I have a mid 2012 MBP, non retina. I mostly put my mac to sleep without closing the lid, by pressing the ctrl+shift+eject buttons. The app worked fine in the above use case in the first day of use but after that its a hit or miss. Is it meant to unlock the computer only when it's awake? The description says it will unlock a mac from sleep.

Well it could be due to many people using the app at the same time. Now I can't buy a paid server because I'm not making any money off this app, so I guess you'll just have to deal with it. I'll see it I can do something to improve the reliability a bit MacOS Sierra not supported! The app worked from time to time. You also had to remember, to open it after restarting your computer. It doesn't launch automatically. After updating to, Mac OS Sierra, the app on my Mac, didn't open at all. When it opened, it quickly closed unexpectedly.
Works but the latency is too much! This is an awesome app and works flawlessly for me. One suggestion will be to provide a widget to invoke the authentication mechanism rather than/or in addition to using the notification drop down. Update: This app worked for a day or two but since then the latency has increased too much. I tried both wifi and 3G and for me the delay in unlocking the system is 15-20 seconds (if I'm lucky). Hence reducing 1 star from the rating.
Great tool, very simple. Works almost perfectly. One thing that prevented me from giving the full 5 stars. There is bug when you change the password. It seems that it is not working properly, and when I tried to troubleshoot the issue, the password is not readable in the keychain. So I can't even check that the password was entered properly.
Doesn't work Tried setting it up multiple times, uninstalled the apk, but still doesn't work. If the dev can help me then I'll give it 5 *****
Kuddos to developer for fixing the crashing issues. maybe your next target could be to make it work when mac starts from boot? (feeling optimistic :) )

If you want DroidID to start up every time you start your Mac, please add the application to Login items under Users & Groups in System Preferences on your Mac I recently had to reimage my mac and start fresh. I'm running Sierra and before I imaged I was running Sierra as well. Now both devices are connecting without a problem. The problem is that everytime I sign in it puts in the wrong password. I made sure the password was correct. Also keychain is not saving the password although the app is putting the right amount of characters when I sign in its just the wrong password I need help. I don't know if I'm missing something thank you
Must must must have... essential for Mac owners Setup, interface and stability of this tiny, low-overhead utility are well-designed and intuitive. No fuss or hassles... does one valuable task extremely well, without ads or any upsell.
Nice app This is a pretty good app, I would give it five stars if it would work when you manually lock your Mac. Also, sometimes when you unlock your Mac using droid id while your Mac is still showing the screen saver (you haven't interuppted it by rubbing the mouse) it enters the wrong password. Strangely, other times it works fine.
Does what it says perfectly I really enjoy this app. Makes unlocking my Mac a lot easier. Personally, I don't think any additional updates are necessary. Great job, guys!
Tempremental Often it says successful but the Mac doesn't unlock - I'm assuming it's a successful read but the command to unlock isn't received by the desktop app. Also needs an option to disable the "too many attempts" feature.
Suyash Srijan June 13, 2016
Can you confirm you're not trying to unlock the Mac under the conditions listed in the Play Store description under "DroidID will not unlock your Mac when:"? Also, the "too many attempts" is an error given by the OS, it cannot be disabled/overridden Excellent Looks good and works great. I have placed the mac client into the Login section but still cannot use the finger print scanner to unlock my Mac. All subsequent unlocking are fine.
Suyash Srijan March 27, 2016
Hi, you cannot do that because even if you place an app under Login items, the apps run after you login and not before or at the time the login screen opens. Easily a Five Star App. It works perfectly, does not cause any slowdown on the mac end, and the mobile app is also very well designed. Unlocking is very fluid and instantaneous. Great idea that bridges the two platforms together...
HELP I don't know why but it isn't connecting forward me ...maybe I'm wrong...opened the app on both Mac and Android...entered the code on phone to the Mac...shows like connected on Mac...even in keychain passwords it is there ...but the app on my phone still on same screen ...please help...
Most of the time app works perfectly but the problem scenario is like this. Put Mac to lock screen by ctrl + shift + power (Macbook Pro Retina Mid 2012) 10.11.6 Open the app on android (Xiaomi Mi 5S+ Marsmallow) Turn screen of on the phone too Wait 3 seconds Turn screen on on Android (The phone is pattern locked) Phone is showing the DroidID screen with waiting fingerprint reader When i scan my fingerprint nothing happen in app also in Mac I think the reason is the android waiting fingerprint reader to unlock the device first and doesn't let the app to get fingerprint data instead of system because system is locked in backstage. For instance if i exit from the app in this stage, pattern unlock screen comes after. I hope you can find a workaround to beat this problem. For other cases app works perfect!
Excellent I have used it on my Mac book pro 2013 and I had no issues can't wait for the windows version
