Pluses and Minuses! After testing the lastest version of Open Signal, it seems more informative and accurate. However, a crucial drawback is, at random, the ability to efficiently know what towers the user is connected to with the line indicator as in the previous version is unstable. Sometimes it works, other times I have to manually decipher my phone connection. Also, Open Signal starts at boot and needlessly runs in the background.
App is not accurate!!! i work for a cellular service provider in the engineering dept. I know were all our towers & other carrier towers are at in the area, it doesnt even point to the tower is at that my phone is connected too. The lats & logs of cellular tower locations are propietary information, that means it is only transfered between carriers that have roaming agreements with each other, carriers dont just give that info out to anyone . So i question its accuracy I emailed them to tell them of their flaw and no response.
Pretty good! It is good but only issue is will not show Verizon coverage if I zoom in pretty close to my location. Only shows AT&T even although I have been using this app with Verizon service.
Hard to know if it is recording anything Unlike Mozilla Stumbler, this app does not display the location of my recorded data, nor if it has any data to upload, nor any clue if it is running in the background (Mozilla Stumbler has a notification with counter). The speed test is quite useful.
Bring back turbo mode! Love the concept behind this, but I have to run a 3rd party app to keep the GPS active. Apparently there used to be a turbo mode that did this automatically - bring back turbo mode, I say.
Pretty useful app, wish people used it more for more accurate data. Suggestion: perhaps some kind of info bar in notification center?
- New speedtest share dialog and sharing image
- Submit Indoors/Outdoors reports after speedtest - so we can learn to distinguish indoor vs outfoor coverage and speeds
- Our holiday treat: It's snowing on the speedtest! - don't like the cold? you can turn it off in the settings.
