Review from Dennis Maria
What a valuable ap for those of us who travel in remote areas. I determine where cell towers are located before entering no cell service zones so if I become stranded I know which direction to start walking for the best chance of hitting the neatest cell tower to summon help.
Guesswork? I use 2 ISPs, Operator A and Operator B. B is significantly better when I use internet connection, but this app says Operator A is 4 times better (yes, Operator A is the most popular provider my country). Speed test also shows I get 6 Mbps for download. Would be very happy if I even only got 10% of that.
Doesn't work in my area. Seems to have me connected to towers in the middle of the English Channel that I don't think exists and the compass points in a different direction to the tower it says I am connected to. The signal strength is sometimes shown as 5 bars on the app and 0 bars and a 'no service's notification on the phone. It also shows poor wifi sometimes when I have a good connection but I only wanted the app to check the different mobile provider's signal in my poor signal area. Pretty useless in all!
Nice idea but the map shows masts where none exist, the arrow points in the wrong direction rather than to the mast to which it thinks the phone is connected and the distance to the mast nearly always seems to be about 7,000 metres even when right by the indicated position. Other navigation and compass apps work correctly on my Samsung Galaxy S7 so I think the problem lies with this app rather than with my phone. It's a shame because the app design is good and if it worked it would be really useful.
Latest update did not fix towers issue as my map shows zero cell towers in New York city and definitely doesn't show what tower I'm connected to. Even so, previously when it did show SOME towers they would pop on and off the map as you zoomed in and out. Never would show all towers.
Being a former Verizon customer and changing to Tmobile and with this app make me realize just how crappy T-Mobile coverage is. This app is Wonderful, shows tower location and signal strength, it has other features also. Wish I had this app BEFORE I switched to TMobile.
TERRIBLE now. I Used to LOVE this app.. I have used this app for quite a long time now. It used to be totally fantastic! Five Star! I don't know what happened. I believe some of the functionality of the app was removed. I used to be able to switch cell towers from the app as well as identify the various provider's towers easily. I could change cell towers and Wi-Fi connections in the app. All that's gone. The coverage map shows towers now after a year, but none say who they are and they are all out of service? 20 towers??? The list of comparison towers hasn't worked for over a year and map gives me either a message that I'm zoomed in to far, or conversely, zoomed out too far. It's either one or the other nothing else. The comparison list simply keeps telling me that the filter needs to be changed, there is never any data or provider's listed for comparison. I used to get stats on all of them near us, ATT, Verizon, Sprint, T-Mobile, etc. Now, nothing. The only reason I gave the app two stars is because the speed test is still pretty good. If you want anything else, I sincerely suggest you look elsewhere.
Bad news for anteaters, we've got rid of a lot of bugs.
