Review from Andy Chu
Everything is right again. Stitcher was good before, but now it's much cleaner and easier to use. And with widgets back, there's nothing left to complain about.
March 6, 2013We just released an update that adds back the widget (didn't quite make it in to our big 3.0 version). You can get it in the Google Play Store at the link below. If you haven't already, would love for you to give us a rating while you're there upgrading as well! https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.stitcher.app
This app has pretty much every podcast I listen to. There's a bit of a learning curve. Once you get the hang of it, it's simple to use. And, if you stop a podcast to listen to another, it'll start where you stopped once you go back to that episode. My biggest issue is that sometimes it doesn't have the current episodes of podcasts, so I can't listen to them until they're one there.
I love the Howl Premium content, but this app blows. I can't skip forward 30s from a Bluetooth speaker...it jumps to the next episode instead. The widget in my notifications doesn't have a jump back or jump forward button. It seems like they took the player from a music app and tried to make it work with podcasts. If I had a howl rss feed I would delete this app, but Comedy Bing Bong and HDTGM are so funny that it is worth the pain.
My frustration with this app is in closing it. After doing a close all and then opening another audio app, when you use your ear buds to stop the running app, it starts Stitcher running again, even when it isn't open. You have to go into the settings and do a hard stop every to stop this from occurring. This is extremely frustrating.
Stitched has a multitude of great content including podcasts and stand up comedy albums. My only criticism is that the search function leaves much to be desired. The user can only search for the shows, not episodes within them. Meaning that if the user is looking for a specific episode, they could have to scroll through upwards of 800 episodes of some shows before finding the one they are looking for. If this was changed, then Stitcher would be a 5 star app.
It seems that stitcher recently added a feature which opens the app automatically when I get in the car. While I can see why some would like that, it's insanely annoying (and arguably dangerous) for me when it opens on top of my navigation. 1 star because I can't seem to disable it, either. Unacceptable.
Your search engine works poorly...like altavista in the 90s. I'll type in the exact pod title and get 20k+ results, with the one I want lost somewhere on page 63 of matches. Fix this!
Stitcher now downloads new episodes in your playlists and Listen Later by default, enabling a more consistent playback experience and easier listening when you don’t have an Internet connection. If you do not want to auto-download, simply go to Download Settings to turn this off or manage how much storage you allow Stitcher to use.
We’re hard at work on some big updates to Stitcher, stay tuned!
