Step through a magic portal and experience the history of your town, where it happened. StoryTrails brings you untold stories from the BFI’s and BBC’s national media archives reimagined by local creatives to take you on an Augmented Reality journey through time and place.

Discover the stories behind the Imp of Lincoln, the Queens of Dumfries and the sporting heroes of Dundee, or time travel through the decades to walk among the echoes of ordinary people as they chat about the things that mattered.

StoryTrails brings history to life where it happened life through never seen before technologies of Niantic and Nexus to feel the presence of our pasts today.

This national collection of over 30 different stories spans the whole of the UK, from Omagh to Lambeth, Swansea to Dundee. Brought to you by StoryFutures, the National Centre for Immersive Storytelling (https://storyfutures.com), StoryTrails features David Olusoga and a host of up-and-coming UK talent.

This free AR App forms part of a major collaboration between the BFI, the BBC, StoryFutures, Nexus Studios, The Reading Agency, ProduceUK, ISO Design as part of UNBOXED, Creativity in the UK (https://unboxed2022.com).

Technical Requirements

Advanced AR and Visual Positioning features are supported on:

o Adreno 630, Mali G-72 (Google Pixel 3, Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+)
o Adreno 640, Mali G-76 (Google Pixel 4, Samsung Galaxy S10, Note 10)
o Adreno 650, Mali G-77 (Samsung Galaxy S20, Note 20)
o Adreno 660, Mali G-78 (Samsung Galaxy S21, Note 21)

o Android OS 9.0 and above

We recommend you first run this experience on Wi-Fi.

Ratings and reviews

Just watched, on BBC2, the history of Covent Garden and this app was mentioned at the end to gain more learning on the history of different parts of London. Don't do it. Can't even get the app to work as it keeps shutting down. Unable to get past the 1st page. Sort it out before you go public with this!!

App on Android doesn't have the necessary updates to work with the information available on their website - Bristol tour advertised as available this weekend, when I arrived at the start point I was told the Android app won't get the Bristol update until next week! Useless for planning a trip!
