Very good free version with enough features to get you going. Segments allow you to track your performance against other users on segments of runs, without having to match the entire route of a run. Easily tracks performance across similar runs and provides user with pace, distance and elevation for a route. Announcements are clear and act as good motivation during a workout. I have only used for tracking running performance but friends also use for cycling and to record other fitness activity. Distance tracking can sometimes vary between runs but I think this due to GOS integration rather than an inherent problem in the app and us better than competitor apps that I have tried, fitness22 or Runtastic.
It's great to have such competiton and also Strava helps you a lot in training sessions as it measures all the data you need to know. The app is perfect for everybody who wants to compete, train, relax and enjoy some sport. I strongly recommend it.
I am using the paid version almost daily for cycling. Won't ride without thus app mostly due to its social aspects. Otherwise there are lots of other apps which offer more for free. Strava needs major upgrade.
Cyclist premium user. Rides with mates and sportives rather than racer. Syncs with zwift and garmin effortlessly. This is my central repository of on road and online riding and training. it costs but, I find it convenient, used by mates and lots of functions to use routes from others, load segments on garmin, look at historic trends on speed and power and potentially follow workouts - though i principally use zwift and gcn for workouts.
Strava is the best app for training, connecting with friends, and staying motivated. However, it always seems to have some issues that are a bit frustrating. My latest problem is that the pics don't all load up at once. If there are three pics, for example, I have to go in and exit out three times so that each picture loads. Is very frustrating, specially when there are tons of pictures.
I like the community aspect of this app. It keeps me going. As far as live recording of activities, the auto pause resume doesnt work as well as I would like and the recording page is not as customizable. I normally use a gps watch, but there are times where I forget the watch and need the app and the strava app is a worthy substitute, but not perfect.
