not at all free and not at all accurate. very poor. google fit is better
I like the app, but it really needs audio segment updates while cycling....might be going back to MapMyRide if they don't add it
The app works fine but always counting speed and distance incorrectly. If you do a ride without stopping, the time, distance and everything else will be consistent with other applications running on the same phone but if you're stopping for a red light of just for a quick test, Strava continue counting another 20 seconds or so, and of course at a speed of zero or close to zero while still assuming your still moving. As a result, non of the scores are correct. I always see a bit longer distance and always see degradation in speed between 1.5 and 0.3 km/h, less than any other app running on the same phone simultaneously. All other apps are consistent and showing similar measurements but Strava. Similar problem with uploading from other sources. I use Moov and when import from Moov, I get even lower scores, far lower than the Moov app in fact shows. Contacted customer service and got to wait more than a month to get a response while response was really sand in the eyes rather than trying to understand the issue and fix it. They claimed Strava is different and counting using a different algorithm but how comes it always inconsistent with any other application in the world!!!???
It works great when my phone is in my back pocket for a 5.4 mile ride but not for a 3 mile and something ride when I used an arm holster since I had no pockets. It auto-paused so my ride was only 20 seconds long and not 40 minutes. I tried this multiple times and every time I checked, it was 10 or 20 seconds. Not nice, Strava.
Worst app I have on my phone atm. It's buggy. You don't have much control over the app. Can't reset the time on the app. Has a stupid sticky notification on head bar that you can't get rid of unless you reboot your phone. To be honest I don't know how this app could score so high. Only thing it does great is having nice colors and a nice interface...
Strava is good only because of the sheer number of users. The platform is definitely lacking on the "social" side of things. It took a very long time for strava to develop support for ant+ on the android platform, which appears to be symptomatic of the development initiatives undertaken by the managemnt team. Can't really use the data you generate. Trailforks is a great complimentary app that catalogues your ride data better.
