The 7 rules for living gamefully is a framework to be stronger, happier, braver & more resilient in everyday life.

Invented by researcher & game designer Jane McGonigal, SuperBetter is backed by science. In a randomized controlled trial at University of Pennsylvania playing SuperBetter for 30 days was associated with significant improvements in mental health and resilience.

HOST ACCOUNT: HOST CHALLENGES FOR SQUADS

Promote mental health, resilience, social-emotional learning and skills for success with groups in a way that's practical & engaging.

Designed for educators, the Host account is available to anyone:

The web-based host portal makes it easy to create squads & host challenges. Squad challenges bring the SuperBetter methodology to life. Each has an epic win and 5-days of activities. Hosts select from a library of over 90 challenges to promote mental, emotional, social & physical resilience, or create custom challenges to have squads go for any epic win they choose. Squad members play about 10 minutes a day on the SuperBetter mobile or web app. They use a free Player account or a low-cost Hero account. Learn more on the SuperBetter website.

PLAYER ACCOUNT: SQUAD PLAY ONLY

The Player account is a companion to the Host account. It is a free account to play with squads only.

Players can join squad challenges when invited by someone with a Host account, and play a weekly challenge hosted by SuperBetter.

DESIGNED FOR SMARTPHONES

The SuperBetter mobile app is designed for smartphones. If you have a Chromebook, iPad or tablet device you can play on the web app.

SUBSCRIPTION TERMS

The Hero account price is $24.99 per year.

Payment will be charged to your credit card. Subscriptions automatically renew unless canceled before the end of the current subscription period. Manage your subscription in Account Settings after purchase. Any unused portion of a free trial period will be forfeited when you purchase a subscription.

Ratings and reviews

The app definitely needs more development, but has lots of potential. It's not the only life gamification app out there, but it's scientifically based, which is cool. What I like is it's not so much about tasks as it is about building resilience through self-care. I really like the future booster option (basically things to accomplish that you're looking forward to in the next couple weeks). I ended up deleting it however, for me it was more of a distraction than anything else.

It's great, but there are some things that would be awesome if could be changed, improved. 1. Would be great if i could delete some power ups. 2. And it would be awesome if we could with quests and experience and power up design and customize our own character! Like get outfits, see him change in size or looks, depending on what we do. Or build our own sanctuary, our safe place, a beatiful enviroment for us. I'll keep using this app, it's great!

A little awkward in structure, but cool idea for those who love games (not really me). Tasks are modest and well-chosen. Everything is bite-sized and the victory sounds are cute. That being said, I'm vastly aware while in the app that the points are, erm, kind of pointless. They don't appear to get me anywhere or give me anything to work towards. Overall, not a bad app but perhaps not for everyone, esp. if looking for big changes.
