UpReader is a new way to read websites, ePub & PDF eBooks (Text Only) using your Virtual Reality (VR) headset.
It displays the text from a website, eBook or PDF as a column of vertical scrolling text in front of you.
By blocking out all distractions you get a fully immersive reading experience in your headset.
Reading eBooks, news websites or other online content on your smartphone during the daily commute can lead to a stiff, sore neck.
UpReader enables you to read in a natural position and use simple head gestures to control the text scrolling, eliminating any tapping or swiping.
UpReader allows you to view your surroundings while wearing your headset by using the cameras.
You can set the text scrolling speed and the scroll back trigger angle in the settings.
The help menu contains two short videos showing how to set up your reading experience.
UpReader also includes support for VR headsets without an opening for the front facing camera.
Go to Settings and set the Screen Layout to "Offset" and allow the security camera mode.
I am trying to ensure the app works on every device but each VR Headset/phone combination is different so please email me about any issue you find.

Stuff we want: being able to make the screen bigger Being able to control the sensitivity of horizontal tilting to stop/play reading (very annoying feature as of now) Being able to have more text per line Stuff we need: You know the Paused button you can click on when the reading is paused? Add it to when reading isn't paused, so that reading won't be paused if you tilt your head. That will make the app usable. Focus on being able to make the screen bigger next.

Can you try the Settings/Font Size and Pupil Distance setting for screen bigger?
For horizontal tilting something like a "Tilt to Pause Angle" setting?

This is perfect for my performance art piece. Is there no way to choose where I will start in the document? Does the paid version just eliminate ads or are there more features enabled?

Hi Dan, I'm happy that UpReader can help with your performance art piece! The paid version is the same ad free. What features do you think would be good? There are a few alternatives to achieve what you want - a custom built ePub file or some hosted web pages. Please email me at plandee@gmail.com.

Freezes often, reading text only pdf files. Scroll speed hard to control. Soorry, but seems inadequately developed.

I'll look into a memory optimization with the PDF library I am using!
The scroll speed is set at a fixed speed in the Settings (what do you have it set to?).
Up past a certain angle - the text will scroll backwards (if you want to read it again).What size font are you using?

What's new
Major upgrade from the previous version! Configure your personal pupil distance, set scroll back angle, set left or right eye dominance and now you can set the security camera size. Also make sure you try the lying down mode! - please let give me feedback about the new version.
