The name ‘Allspice’ comes from a well known spice, although it is a native of the New World. Unknown elsewhere until it was introduced into Europe by the Spaniards in the 16th century. The Allspice tree is handsome and very aromatic, Allspice berries are the size of large peppercorns. The name ‘Allspice’ describes its flavour, which is a combination of nutmeg, cinnamon and cloves with a slight peppery overtone.
