Still significantly more rubbish than just using the website Although I bought this on launch because I love the website so much, and want to support it. Hope this app improves to become almost as useful as the website.

The app's alright, but for the storage space it takes up, it should be and could be A LOT better. The website version searches words a lot better than the app. The thing it could improve on the most are the example sentences. especially on the website. They're very long and complex. They should be short, simple, and use the word being searched effectively. I know it'll be a lot of work but please fix those example sentences. Some of them are horrible!

Pretty good, needs radical searches Good layout, good font type, easy to use. But needs function to search radicals.

good app, but could be better This app is very nice, but could you please allow the back button to close it? It just opens the search instead, so I have to manually kill the app. Also, as mentioned by others, the radical search from the website would be nice.

Needs some improvements This app is very helpful. But, there are some bugs, including: - keyboard being closed and opened by its own will when you tap on search bar. - endless detailed info about kanji if you tap on kanji while looking at a full word. Also, it'd be amazing if you added search by a radical and kanji favorites list (I see the star icon but cannot see the favs tab and whatnot). Overall, this is a nice and stable app. Thank you.

Offline Japanese dictionary Very good offline dictionary. Ad supported but they don't get in the way and easy to remove. If you use the website version you will be right at home with this application version. 👍 🗻

Wonderful app, but I'd like to see my vocab lists The app is amazing. I no longer have to use multiple dictionaries and apps to find the reading of a word, the meaning of a kanji, and get example sentences. I only use one other site for learning phrases a word is used in. I would really love if I could log in through the app to view my vocab lists. Other than that, I love using this.
No longer recommending it since paying users got landed with ads I originally rated this 5 stars but deleted it. I no longer recommend this because of the customer treatment. It sucks if you pay to support to a promising looking app and then it gets converted to free AND you get landed with ads There may be restrictions by the Google store, but a) you can research things before you make a change b) it's still the responsibility of the developer to find a solution for this instead of putting the blame on Google. For example upgrade this one back to an ad-free version and release a separate version with ads.

Thanks for explaining that that one star is for how you were treated and not for the app itself. Fine until the free version came I've read the reviews and I've also read your response. It sucks that Google isn't helping you with the refunds but it is how it is now. Can't you work on an ad free version for those who paid? Think of something to compensate the people. Of course you didn't get rich from 300 sold apps but the 300 people who bought it and supported you are now being told that it was a mistake to do so. Besides that I'll keep using the app because it's still a good dictionary and does the job well.
Fail Used to be great. I didn't pay for ads though. Also, the new UI sucks. You honestly have to make an ad free version available for those who paid. If you don't, people will feel completely ripped off, which is true! If I were you I would hurry up with that, or this app will lose traction with its fanbase quickly.
Annoying ads Please do something . i have paid for great app before this but now i have to use with annoying app. Its very annoying. You make another free version but please keep the original for ur real customer! Its very UNFAIR!

The paid model didn't work out. I wanted to refund those who paid for it but Google Play does not allow it. I agree it's unfair. It was a mistake and I'm deeply sorry about it. Latest update big improvement Better UI and can now search with conjugated words it seems, finally. Now I'm just a bit annoyed because I have to deal with ads after having paid for the app, otherwise I'd give it a higher rating. Keep the paid version without ads for those of us who've paid and have a free one with ads, thank you very much 😕
Not acceptable After having paid for the app I now find that this update made it free and made it show ads.

If it's any consolation to you I've spent 7 years working on this dictionary and the app sold 300 copies in six months. I'm very sorry you spent $3 on it and it's free now. Gregory Bober August 5, 2014
Very sorry about this. The paid app sold ~300 copies in six months. I'm not being greedy. It wasn't sustainable. I wish I could issue refunds with promo codes to those who paid for it but the Google Play store does not allow it because of my nationality. Meh As a big fan of the Tangorin website, I immediately purchased this app. In the current state there is no point in using this app over JED or the online tangorin version. Missing conjugations and live search are the biggest flaws. Also is it offline? There are no indications in the app whatsoever. The initial database preparation went way too fast to download all the files. The font size is in general too small. It is difficult to tab single characters like 何 or か on my nexus 5. I also keep hitting the search bar when trying to select a word from the results. I will stick to JED and the tangorin website (it scales good in mobile browsers) for the moment. Don't charge 4 USD for a unfinished product. Will correct my review at a later point

The app is 100% offline. You don't even need to download any additional files to run it the first time. The database preparation is done locally and it only optimizes the indices. An update adding new features you mentioned is coming soon. A little bit disappointed Actually, I have a little bit disappointed to this app. I think it's better than the website when I decide to buy this before. After I install and try to use, I am disappointed. Because there is little function only. Such as, I key the name, but no result. I can get many realuts if I search in website. that's why I feel stupid. If I know less function than website, I will Not to buy. So I hope this app have the improvement.
