About this app
MetSwissKnife is an indispensable tool for those working in the mineral processing industry. The application was developed by a metallurgist for his fellow mineral processing metallurgists.
Its main features are:
> Slurry Properties Calculator – calculates slurry properties given the specific gravity of solids and either percent solids by weight or slurry density.
> P80 Calculator – calculates the P80 or size at 80% passing given a screen analysis.
It can also be used to determine say P25, P50 or P75. It can also provide the percent passing at any given size. It uses Rosin-Rammler fit in determining the value of P80.
> Ballmill Power Calculator - calculates the ballmill/rodmill power power requirement based on Bond Work Index Formula.
> Molecular Weight Calculator – calculates the molecular weight of a given chemical formula.
> Grinding Mill Loading Calculator– calculates the free height, percent grinding media loading, volume of charge and charge weight given the dimensions of the mill and either the free height or percent media loading.
> Grinding Media Calculator – calculates various parameters such as weight per steelball, weight per cubic meter or number of pieces per ton for a particular ball size.
> Hydrocyclone Evaluation Calculator- This module is useful for evaluating the performance of hydrocycloning. Important performance indexes calculated include circulating load using least absolute sum method, P80’s of various streams, D75, D50, D25, sharpness index, selectivity numbers and classification numbers.
> Hydrocyclone Size Calculator - A module designed to provide dimensional and operating figures to answer questions like "What cyclone size and how many should be used to give an overflow of 80%passing 74microns?".
> Temperature Converter – converts into 8 different temperature scales.
> Reagent Dosing Calculator- calculates reagent addition rate based on milling rate, reagent dosage that must be added to a laboratory sample of known weight or mass of solids and water that must be mixed based on desired ratio.
> Langelier and Ryznar Indexes Calculator- calculates these indexes for determining the scaling potential of water.
> Tank Volume Calculator - calculates the tank volume for cylindrical or elliptical tank. Horizontal or vertical orientation can be selected and various cap/end design (flat, hemispherical, ellipsoidal, torispherical, conical) can be chosen.
Other features are:
> List of elements showing atomic number, symbol, name, atomic weight, density, melting and boiling temperature.
> Table of hardness conversion between Rockwell, Brinell and Vickers hardness numbers.
> Table of sieve conversion showing standard sieve size, alternative size, sieve opening and equivalent Tyler sieve.
> Table of Mohs Hardness.
> Equilibrium Potential Metal Cyanide Ions - reference table for determining the sequence of electro-deposition of metal with respect to gold during elctrowinning process.

MetSwissKnife now has 17 tools. • The latest addition is a module called 'Tank Volume Calculator’. This module is designed for calculating the volume of liquid contained in a tank. It is useful for example in determining the remaining reagent solution in a holding tank or loaded carbon capacity of an elution vessel or remaining fuel in a horizontal tank with an elliptical cross section.
