The WithStrings Guitar Tuner is divided into 5 sections: a bar graph modeled after a guitar neck, an analog meter, a XY graph, a row of buttons, and a single line text display. The buttons provide the controls for the tuner. Buttons from left to right: TUNE, PLAY, AUTO (manual), and LIN/LOG.
Press the TUNE button (note, the PLAY button is disabled until the STOP is pressed). The tuner will begin listening for tones from your guitar. There is a minimal audio level needed for tuning so please place the microphone on your phone about a foot from your guitar's body. Pluck the string starting with string 6 (the thickest string). The bar graph will indicate if your tone is within range of the note of that string. If your string is tuned too low, the bar graph display will show a red bar above the string. Likewise if the string is tuned too high, a red bar will appear below the string. Tighten or loosen the string until the string you are tuning on the guitar matches the string on the bar graph as indicated by a thick black line. Further adjust the string tension so the pointer on the meter is centered.
Press the AUTO (manual) button until the desired string note combination appears. The bar graph will remain fixed at this selection. Use the meter to fine tune the selected string. If the tone is too high, the needle will remain pointing to the right. If the string tone is too low, the needle will point to the left.
The XY Graph will display the spectrum of the sampled audio data. This will be seen as a series of peaks that represent the individual frequencies that make up the sample. Notes played on the guitar will consist of peaks that indicate the primary frequency of the note and other frequencies produced by the guitar (often an octave and fifth). The XY graph is a good tool to 'see' the sound generated by your guitar and practice technique The x-axis is scaled from 0 to 1000HZ. The y-axis is auto-scaled to the highest peak. The y-axis can be scaled in a linear or logarithmic mode with the LIN/LOG button. The red line on the x-axis indicates the threshold for capturing a peak.
Small guitars and electrics may not show on the bar graph at the low E string, but will instead show E on octave above. In this case the bar graph will show a red bar between the D and G strings. Manual operation on the E-6 string will not work.
Press the PLAY button (note, the TUNE button is disabled until STOP is pressed). In AUTO mode the Android device will begin play tones E, A, D, G, B, E in one second intervals. Headphones will allow better response of the lower strings. Pluck the same string as shown on the bar graph. Match the tones.
Using the AUTO button a single tone can be selected. It will repeat at about 1 second intervals. Tuning by ear usually involves listening for beat frequency. If two notes are slightly different in frequency, a low frequency beat will be heard. This sound will dissolve as the two notes converge.
It is standard practice to loosen the string and tighten it to bring the string in tune. This will remove slack from the tuning gear.

Take your guitar tabs wherever you go, and search online for the ones that you don't have!
What it does:
- Searches for guitar tabs online
- Search for guitar tabs by band
- Views retrieved guitar tabs
- Saves online tabs to phone
- Filters saved tabs by band
- Adds / Edits your own guitar tabs with copy/paste
- Pinch and zoom tab view
- Phone stays awake in tab view so that it doesn't sleep when viewing and playing
- You can also copy tab files from your pc to sd card
What it doesn't do:
- Does not Guarantee accurate tabs
(tabs are retrieved from an online archive)
- Does not Have ratings or stars for tabs
(The online archive does not have this functionality)
When started for the first time, Tabapp Pro creates a folder in the root of your SD card named 'tabapp' where it saves your tabs.
If you are having troubles with the app force closing immediately upon load, please manually create the 'tabapp' folder in the root of your sd card. (For some strange reason a small amount of handsets are not letting the app create this folder)
You can also add your tabs from files on your computer.
Simply paste your tab files (.txt) into this folder with the filenames formatted like this ('bandname_song-name.txt').
Please make sure that you replace the spaces with (-) dashes and seperate the band from the song with an (_) underscore.
Please email email@example.com to report bugs or errors so that I may fix and update as soon as possible.
When commenting below, please make sure you give sufficient details, if the app is not working for you.
Additional details help me chase down bugs and update the app as soon as I can.
I hope you enjoy using this app!
