Good messaging app which needs improvement I have used this app for over a year and so far, it's my favorite messaging app. It comes with a lot of useful features and settings: such as storing conversation media, sending delayed texts, tracking a conversation. The only reason I'm not rating 5 stars was the removal of the API which allows temporary data to turn on for sending/receiving messages over group text. It has lead to receiving late messages over group texts. I hope Textra will find a way to return this useful feature and keep improving.
Finally, an app that deserves all 5 I was led to Textra via a blind search for an SMS/MMS replacement after the default Android message app started to choke. Textra is actually quite awesome! I like that my outgoing MMS is not compressed, and that I can control whether or not long SMS texts get chopped up. Clean integration. And so far less, 100% stable--not so much as a glitch. I've used this app on the Note 3, Note 4, and now S6...perfect on all 3.
Clear upgrade Certainly better than stock messenger by all accounts. The ads are there but not so bad they interrupt use and allow you to get a quality service for your phone at no cost or little cost they will be gone. As with most aspects of Android you get really great customization and the design is clean and usable. Really 0 problems with the application.
Simple and Elegant Update: I originally reviewed this app on 10/28/15. The app only gets better! But please for the love of everyone who texts me, please increase the repeat notification intervals! - This app is almost the perfect SMS app! The only tiny issue, the option to turn on repeat notifications is there but it only exists in 2 minute intervals... That is far too frequent and defeats the purpose of repeat notifications. This is a top requested feature and I will definitely give 5 stars once it has been implemented!
Love it, but This is a highly customizable messaging app, which I love! I agree with an earlier note about needing longer time between repeat notifications. I would really like to see font packs added, and perhaps allowing in-conversation backgrounds. It's also kinda annoying that you can't see the actual sort of emoji you've set, only the Android emoji shows until the message is sent. Fonts for real though!
I've tried them all For configurability and ease of use without all the nonsensical crap that some other apps contain, you can't beat Textra! The features you want (such as Quick Reply) are here, easy to set up and configure to your own taste. I've been using it for at least two years straight now, and whenever I factory reset my device, this is one of the first apps to get installed. I went ahead and bought the paid version and haven't been sorry for it.
✔ WORLD FIRST: Textra now provides all published (2000+ Unicode 9) emojis for iOS, EmojiOne, Twitter and Android emoji styles.
✔ Long pressing on an emoji in the + panel now magnifies it, so easier to see!
✔ For multi-media messages we now show additional details (e.g. size) when pressing the "i" icon in either the mini-menu or the media previewer.
✔ Bug fixes
