Xiangqi is Chinese chess, played on the intersections of a 9x10 board split by a river, with a palace at each end that the general may never leave. Every traditional rule is here, from cannon screens to the flying general.
• Full piece set: general, advisors, elephants, horses, chariots, cannons and soldiers
• Cannons capture only by jumping exactly one piece in between
• Blocked horse legs and elephant eyes, and elephants never cross the river
• Soldiers gain sideways moves once they cross the river
• Only legal moves are allowed, and legal destinations light up when you pick a piece
• Play the computer on Easy, Normal or Hard, or pass and play with a friend
• Check is announced, and wins, losses and draws are tracked
If you only know international chess, the cannon will surprise you. If you grew up with Xiangqi, this is the board you already know.
