About this app

"Dot the Earth" is an app about the Temples of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (sometimes called the Mormon or LDS church).  In the app you can search for temples, mark visited and favorites, get quick access to details (contact info, services, timelines, etc.), view and submit images to a gallery, create a personal journal, or diary, of temple visits, use your camera to see the relative direction and distance toward your nearest temples and more.

List View

Here you can scroll through or search for all the Temples that are dedicated, under construction, or announced.  By clicking on a Temple, you can see contact information, the Temple’s timeline, a public gallery, and a place to log any visits and record thoughts.

Map View

By selecting a temple marker, the map will zoom in on the selection and show you how far away that temple is from your current location.  Some Temples that are announced or under construction may have a placeholder location near the center of the announced location and will be updated as the information becomes available.

Camera View

In this simple augmented reality view, you can see where temples are relative to you and your surroundings. As you rotate and turn, the nearest temples will appear, their orientation can be seen in relation to you and what direction you are pointed, and the distance to those temples will show.  “..they pitched their tents round about the temple, every man having his tent with the door thereof towards the temple . . .” Mosiah 2:6

Animated Timeline

This will let you play and pause the flow of time and watch as temples spread across the Earth. Want to watch as temples are announced, start construction, or are dedicated sequentially on a map?  You can also enter any day and see how many temples dotted the earth on that day historically.

Charts

Included are 2 charts that show the history of temples from 1830 until the present day.

Journal

Want to remember each time you visit the temple or make a few notes about impressions you have received? Keep them all here along with which temple you were at.

“Families are to be sealed together for all eternity. A welding link is to be forged between the fathers and the children. In our time, a whole, complete, and perfect union of all dispensations, keys, and powers is to be welded together. For these sacred purposes, holy temples now dot the earth.”

I've been waiting to leave this review... because it was lacking in some areas. The most frustrating one was not having the ability to edit journal entries... I went in today to record a visit, and not only did they enable editing... but they went one better and made a section for activities done!! Now... can we see stats/records of all ordinances completed? Because that would be awesome. Maybe it does, and I just didn't notice yet. Thank you... please keep up the great work. The app is great.

UPDATE2: the latest update 1.5.10 does indeed have the landscaping option. Runs smoothly. Fantastic!! UPDATE: Thanks for the clarity. Would still very much like a landscape option especially for map view. ORIGINAL: Great app except cannot view map in landscape and temples are not updated on the map with those announced in April and October 2024 (some but not all).

Update: In version 1.5.10, just released, we added the ability to use landscape for maps and a few other views. Original: Thanks for the review and the feedback! We do not place a marker on the map until the church announces the final location where the temple will be built, so there is a bit of lag between the announcement and being on the map.

This is the exact app that I have been looking for forever!! I have searched for a while trying to find something like this. I even was planning on contacting an app creator to make something like this. All of the features are exactly what I've wanted to see in an app like this. Some features id like to see in the future would be the ability to add pictures that I took at each temple, and then maybe narrow it down what I did at each temple. Example, endowment, baptisms, outside visit only.

Thanks for the review! Our current version, 1.6.1, now has the ability to mark certain activities in a journal entry like your example.
