It would be nice if the list of available guides included a small map showing the limits of the areas covered by each guide, or even info on where the routes covered start and end rather than just " ......... Region". $12 is a lot to pay when you don't even know whether you're buying the right guide for the place you're in.
Just downloaded the free poonhill sections, looks good however the proof will be when used. The areas aren't too clear what's included for example I'm looking at the panorama or sanctuary trek in the Annapurnas and not sure if they are included or not, a lot of money for a punt. App has a lot of potential.
I bought the Annapurna Circuit section of the app. I used it without incident for most of my trek, but during the last week, it started to fail repeatedly even though I didn't have my phone on airplane mode or anything. It was really a pity. I was in Ledar trying to look up the next villages of my trek, but the app would open only for a few seconds a a time. So completely useless! Very disappointed, because I loved the app up until then.
Pros: Extremely detailed map, makes it easy to navigate. Interesting background information on local biodiversity, geology, history, and social life. Lodges are introduced though not recommended for every village. Sidetrips are occasionally presented. Additional information about safety, and "good-to-know" stuff let the app come close to traditional travel guide books. Offline nature helps saving batteries while on tour. The mountain finder add on is great! Cons: Keeps hanging up and shutting down every (!) time you zoom in. The location function does not work. These make its usage rather ineffective. The "Everest Region Trek" map only includes the classic EBC trek, and leaves aside Gokyo and any further stages of the 3 passes trek. Fixing the software bugs would be highly appreciated.
I downloaded free section first to test before i buy Everest region. Looks very helpful when working! Problem is it keeps crashing all the time.
Just downloaded this app to check it out, I'm planning EBC trek or maybe the 3 passes! I looked at the free poonhill section just to get an idea and from a quick glance it's seems to be a pretty informative app and the map looked to be very detailed. I read on an earlier review that it will become free soon?! That would be awesome, when will this happen?
