It would be nice if the list of available guides included a small map showing the limits of the areas covered by each guide, or even info on where the routes covered start and end rather than just " ......... Region". $12 is a lot to pay when you don't even know whether you're buying the right guide for the place you're in.
I bought the Annapurna Circuit section of the app. I used it without incident for most of my trek, but during the last week, it started to fail repeatedly even though I didn't have my phone on airplane mode or anything. It was really a pity. I was in Ledar trying to look up the next villages of my trek, but the app would open only for a few seconds a a time. So completely useless! Very disappointed, because I loved the app up until then.
Pros: Extremely detailed map, makes it easy to navigate. Interesting background information on local biodiversity, geology, history, and social life. Lodges are introduced though not recommended for every village. Sidetrips are occasionally presented. Additional information about safety, and "good-to-know" stuff let the app come close to traditional travel guide books. Offline nature helps saving batteries while on tour. The mountain finder add on is great! Cons: Keeps hanging up and shutting down every (!) time you zoom in. The location function does not work. These make its usage rather ineffective. The "Everest Region Trek" map only includes the classic EBC trek, and leaves aside Gokyo and any further stages of the 3 passes trek. Fixing the software bugs would be highly appreciated.
Taken 24 hours to download Poonhill trek part. It was stuck at 33% yesterday. Today it's stuck at 68%
