This app (Tect O Trak) is designed to track and record the user's movements within the boundaries of a user-defined search area. The track recording feature will require consent to run location services in the background for long periods. The location data will be used to create breadcrumb type tracks on a map and also for coordinates when recording a find.

Tect O Trak also needs permission/consent to access photos, media and files. This is for photograph/image management which is essential for building a photographic journal type database

Tect O Trak does not access, seek to access, or require sensitive user information or any type of information

All data is stored only locally to this device, No data is gathered, monitored, uploaded, collected, shared, or viewable to anyone but the user. All data is strictly private and confidential.

Sadly, after six years, it has become necessary to withdraw the free version and replace it with a fully functional 28-day time trial version. This is to help ensure the continued development, maintenance and longevity of this very specialised application. I hope you have found Tect O Trak useful and worthy of your support.
If you are not in a position to support the app at the moment, it is recommended you do not allow any further updates and remain on Version V6.

Tect O Trak is an Android Gps track and finds recording application. Specifically designed for metal detectorists, by a detectorist. This is the app we were all waiting for. I got fed up with waiting, so I had a go at developing it myself! I hope you like it. Your feedback and support will be greatly appreciated.

This application allows the user to track and record their movements within a predefined area. Searches can be saved and resumed. Additionally, you can also mark/ revisit find spots, and make detailed photo and text records of your finds. You can also view and interact with your files on Google Earth using the Kml export tool.

Ideally, you should turn on both GPS and Tect O Trak at least five minutes before you actually start detecting/recording. Let it track you moving around for a while. It's important that you are moving. This will give the GPS time to get a good fix on you. You will benefit from a more accurate starting point.

I am not a professional developer. My interest is purely in metal detecting. Although I am the designer, I have to hire in people to do the actual hard coding. If you like Tect O Trak, please show your support by purchasing the app, also leaving a review in the playstore. This will go some way towards helping me develop the app further. I have lots more innovative ideas to implement, all dedicated to the specialised needs of the detectorist. With a little support from the community, it will be interesting to see how far I can take it!

Ratings and reviews

Good app, but no luck with Map Overlay, and can't seem to get any support. I add the overlay map, resize and lock it, but then unable to pan or zoom in/out. Is this how it's meant to work? Trying to Set Markers on the map, they appear UNDERNEATH the overlay map, so I can't see them. Again, is this normal? Instructions say I can save overlay map for future use, but I can't find a save function. Am I doing this all wrong? Happy to buy full version, but Map Overlay is the main thing I want it for.

ok, this app is good but needs a lot of work. contacted the author months ago but got no decent reply. Shame as the app would get five stars if it was designed a bit better. Setting markers is a pain, and trying to move and zoom the map can make you set a wrong marker. why not set up a simple wizard that allows you to go through a set up quickly and easily before you start the track? with this app is that the tracking lines don't work correctly on my Galaxy S9+ after the screen shuts off.

This app is fantastic. Every detectorist should have it. It is wonderful. It takes a bit of working out at first, it isn't difficult though and you can set your areas to practice with when you are at your home. I set my search area inside my home, took photos as if they were finds and got used to the app this way, I then knew what to do once in the field , although always remember to first 'start tracking'. Although if you alter the search area that is already set, it then deletes any finds.

What's new

This updates Tect O Trak for Android 10 and changes to the 'Run in background' (screen off) permission requirements.

Also, selected coordinate systems will become the default system until changed by the user. HH
