Good with minor flaws I love this ebook reader and I like that I am able to sync my books and reading progress through dropbox. My problem is that the auto sync frequency is pretty ridiculous. There is no need for this app to constantly sync ever minute or so even when I haven't been reading books. There should be an option to manually set the sync frequency or simply sync after aldiko has been in use.
Good but... There really needs to be an option to set the sync frequency. I can't think of any reason to sync every minute, and as others have mentioned it's extremely annoying on tablets. Auto sync is almost useless because of this. I understand that the sync frequency issue can be "fixed" by using Tasker, but any developer who suggests that the biggest complaint about their app should be corrected by using another, more expensive app is just being lazy. Seriously, all we're asking is that you don't burn up our battery or data plan by giving us an option to only sync ever few hours. Is that too much?
Must-have for multi-device users Great product, great implementation, great support. Anyone that uses multiple Android devices (phone+tablet for example), this is practically a necessity. Absolutely worth paying for the Pro unlocker as well. A few days ago, I got an error when trying to sync, so emailed developer from within the app (which auto-populated the error info), he replied within an hour - Dropbox was having some maintenance or something that day. Problem wasn't even with his app, but developer did the research and replied very quickly. 5 stars and totally worth the 99-cent upgrade to the unlocker for automatic syncing.
Great Have been using this and the paid version for over 2 years now. Love this app. For those who complain about permissions and Root, understand that is due to Aldiko, not this app. Aldiko has been claiming they will add sync for 3 years and it has never developed, yet they actively try to block this apps access. Go figure. I use this on 3 different devices and it works flawlessly!!!!
Very useful but annoying The sync with every unlock is extremely annoying. It wouldn't be if that sync message wasn't in the screen each time. The work around is to use Tasker, which is what I do for hourly sync. But that sync message is still there on top of everything when the sync happens, please give us the option to remove that message so the sync can truly be behind the scenes. Update: The hide status icon only hides the area used in the notification bar, it does not seem to hide the annoying pop up. The pop up is only a visual cue for the user. It isn't necessary. It would be more logical to have a pop up or a notification display if a sync fails. And even this should be an optional configuration. Please reconsider how you are doing this. It sounds like you had some users not understand how it works and they were opening Aldiko before a sync had been completed. Not all of your users need to be notified of each and every sync, so this should certainly be an option to disable within the app. This is a 5 star app if these changes are ever implemented. As it is now it is very useful but terribly annoying.
What a great developer I was having issues getting the pro version to sync properly. I e-mailed the developer and had a response in about an hour and we had several e-mails back and forth to timely solve my issues. It seems that there are 2 events that trigger the sync - properly closing Aldiko and when your screen is unlocked. I was leaving Aldiko running in the background, so the sync was not properly initiated. Problem solved. Thanks! Update for everyone complaining about the new root requirements... it's aldiko causing the problem... just don't update aldiko or uninstall it and find an older version on the internet.
