S7 issue This app worked wonders for me on my S5. But with my new S7 it bugs out when i try to scroll in the app. Please fix! Would love to use it as per normal again. Thanks.

A "must have" dictionary Jed is great indeed. If you're looking for a Japanese/English, English/Japanese dictionary, this is one of your best options. For those of us who aren't good at kanji, the dictionary has furigana (hiragana) above each kanji. You can also save lists of words and name them for quick reference or study.

Great, but buggy? Used this app when I lived in Japan. Conjugations of verbs and kanji stroke order diagrams are invaluable. Since upgrading to an S6, every time I scroll it goes blurry, bounces up and down and won't scroll all the way to the bottom. Installing and reinstalling didn't help. Would love a fix as I'm studying Japanese again!

Best Japanese dictionary for droid I love this app. I was used to using kotoba for apple products but I couldn't find a good. Dictionary for my phone but this is it. It is great that it is also free without the ads. Even if they charged for it. I would still get it.

Excellent! While the developer may be spending their time making money elsewhere this dictionary is by far the best I've come across from English to Japanese. The only thing missing are more information surrounding each term. But that I can look for elsewhere. Love this, thank you.

This is a really useful and brilliant app over all; the dictionaries however keeping going invalid at random. An uninstall and reinstall worked only as a temporary fix and even then, there is trouble. I hope this app will work better soon, it's been a huge help in my studies. ありがとな。

Amazing I used this in Japan when I was there for 2 months. I had some basic Japanese. The app is so useful - mostly the all search but all the functions are so practical if you can't read a kanji or want an example sentence. And takes up little room and doesn't need WiFi or data. Thank you so much for creating and sharing this great app. I love it.
すごい JED! Awesome. I had tried this program on a motorola atrix and it would not install correctly. I upgraded to a samsung galaxy note and now it works perfectly. Thank you for making this program available. Having the wwwjdic in my pocket whenever i want it is a God send, fast interface too!The storage usage is really not that much for modern devices.
Awesome BUT... wont work on my LG optimus one after updating from android 2.2 to 2.3 Gives the same errors as posted by Erin - I get to download dictionaries, but after that it just crashes with options to send report and force close.. Dunno if it is the android update or programs own, but no JED for me =/ Sad because this really was the best jap dic out here..
Good, but... This is a great dictionary. It's offline which is good for underground. I've gotten used to the format. It took me a while to get used to 'tag'ging everything because not everything is just saved in the search 'history', which seems to only save individual kanji you clicked on, not words. My frustration with JED now is that neither the 'export to Google Docs' nor the 'Export to Anki' features are working for me. The former says 'error exporting'. Am I supposed to enter my Google id/password? I tried that, still doesn't work. Is there some JED username I can make? The Anki exporter is outdated and needs to be set up to work with the new Anki 2, I think. I was excited to know that I can go direct to Anki, but I guess I'll go back to entering all the words individually to make new Anki cards, which I don't really have diligence to do.
:-/ This dictionary seemed really promising, but nothingis working the way it's supposed: Kanji stroke order diagrams, but they don't appear anywhere, and when I got the lists nothing shows up--you have to type manually--that really defeats the purpose; the whole interface is broken, had to uninstall...definitely not on par with IOS's "Kotoba" and "Japanese":-( Wishthey were available for Android too...
Necessity Rarely do reviews, can't hold myself back here though. Started learning Japanese 5 years ago, live here now. All this time JED helped me tremendously (esp.in combination with anki). Love the sentence examples. There are two things that would make it perfect: the ability to add new entries to the dictionary, and kanji recognition (need to use different app simultaneously). Apart from that, great! Thank you!
Get Aedict Dev no longer supports this dictionary and it's somewhat incomplete. Example sentences, for instance, contain no furigana nor links to possibly unknown kanjis. Best I've found so far for this is Aedict, although its not perfect either..
My most used app This is the best dictionary app I have found. I deleted all the others as I ended up not using them after downloading JED. It has so many useful and well thought out features such as being able to search for terms in kana or romaji, the stroke order animations for the kanji, showing variations of the same word with alternate kanji, lists of all the conjugation for each word and example sentences.
I've finished n1 and I'm hoping for an improved flash card function - otherwise a very good dictionary. I downloaded this app to check out the flash card function - The Japanese app on iOS lets you use flashcards to pick up JLPT words and there are preset decks sorted by level. It seems that in this app, you must add the flash cards one by one manually after setting up a folder. This took me a lot of clicking around to learn how to do it, so it isn't as intuitive or easily accessible as I had hoped, despite having an in-built flash card system. This is important for people learning high level kanji. :)
Fantastic app Just a couple of things I'd like: Kanji recognition (though the search by radicals is useful too) Clearer definitions or fewer in the cases of some... there are often several definitions for the same word that native Japanese seem to disagree with... Beyond that, it's a superb app! It's far cheaper than a denshi jisho and it's offline unlike many others... Keep up the too work!
Awesome App Awesome app. My favourite app. thanks v much. it is too bad that you no longer work on this app anymore. :(
Great but still need some improvement to be excellent I love it so much. Learning japanese is become simpler for me now. But still i have to look back to my Kanji Dictionary because i couldnt find some words here. So many word that contains more than one kanji and when we dont even know the read then we search it by radicals, its only showing one kanji. Means u have to re-checking for the other one. It takes more time. But over all this is a great apps. Good job.
Very comprehensive! Feature-wise, I think it's very good. So far the best dictionary I've used, even better than Aedict. Dictionary + conjugation of not only group 1 and group 2 verbs, but also grp 3! The only nitpicking I have now is that the touch-zone for the cross symbol to delete the currently entered text in the search box at the top with one touch is too small. I have to press to the right half of the image of the cross to trigger the clearing of the text box, making it a little hard to switch between searches quickly.
Japan resident, Japanese language student It's not bad, but it's not very practical. It tends to give unusual words and unused pronounciations. Like the provided pronounciation for 風邪 is wrong, the correct かぜ is only listed as an alternative and easy to miss. However the kanji search by radical is invaluable as is the ability to look up phrases. For general words I'd recommend something else.
Used to woork great.... I installed this app a few years ago and it was wonderful and very useful. Recently however it has begun crashing my phone. It opens fine, but as soon as I enter a search item I get error messages and it casues the phone to reboot. If you can get it to work, I recommend it highly.
Needs improvement Comprehensive data but should be faster for quick lookups. Requires 2 unnecessary taps to search, and being slow makes this very annoying when you want to find something quickly. Fix this and easily 5 stars
Must have! Best ever! I could look at words all day. So much information! Kanji has frequency, JLPT lvl, Japanese school level, etc. Entering a word with multiple kanji shows the meaning of each kanji, and you can click them to go to their dictionary pages. I like how when you enter dictionary form of a verb, it shows ます forms (past/present, neg/aff), て form, etc etc. So much more, too. So cool if you're a total nerd like me. :)
Amazing This has been an amazing and extremely simple and easy-to-use dictionary. While I try to avoid romaji, one nice feature is that you can search up Japanese words using romaji spelling if you're in a hurry and don't want to use hiragana/katakana. It also breaks down radicals of compound kanji, and gives you all forms of a verb (two very useful features). Maybe 5-10% of the words I've looked up haven't been in the database, possibly due to being slang or newer versions of words. Only reason it's not 5-star.
Nothing is better than this I've been using this for a long time now and its totally awesome you can type it in English/Japanese/ the sounds of the word (if you know the sounds eg. a,I,u,e,o) 5 stars keep it up!
More features Been using JED for years now and I absolutely love it. It's helped me out in many a dire situation. Was just wondering if it's possible to add an option so you can add your own entries or delete entries, or an online mode and download other people's entries and notes about certain words. I'm sure people would happily pay for that. Again, thank you for your hard work. Tried to email to thank you but address is no longer active. Great product. I recommend it to all.
One of the best apps I've seen As someone studying Japanese in Japan, this is honestly the best Japanese dictionary I have seen out there. The feature that really persuaded me to write this review was the ability to 'tag' words into categories and then export your categories directly into AnkiDroid flash card files. An unbelievably useful feature for anyone studying the language. The app really does boast a vast vocabulary and the example phrases are great for understanding the appropriate usage of words.
This app is fantastic Nearly perfect. Used it constantly in Tokyo. Would prefer keyboard to come up automatically.
Thanks for the best application. This is an excellent application. Really good for daily basis and for kanji. Every Japanese language learners MUST HAVE app. Really really thanks to all of you who developed this Magic application. One more thing. I would like to give you a 7 star rating. . Yoroshiku onegai shimasu. .
Great application! All I need for a Japanese English dictionary. Nice interface, intuitive, easy to use. Thank you so much for your work!
Very good I stumbled upon JED after having been using WWWJDIC for Android for nearly an year. The latter is very good also and feature-rich, the big drawback for me is that it lacks an off-line dictionary search capability, which JED provides. JED also features animated preview of kanjis: here not only the order but also the direction of each stroke is shown. On the minus side, in comparison to WWWJDIC for Android, JED lacks OCR and handwritten kanji recognition support, therefore I'm giving four stars. All in all, a very good and complete app which does its jobs perfectly.
