Monospace is a minimal notes and writing app, built from the ground up with a designed-for-touch UI.
It get's rid of the standard editing features you'd find in standard writing and notes apps and replaces them with a modern-styled, essentials-only formatting popup.
Monospace Writer supports Bold, Italics, Strikethrough, Bullet, Quote and a bunch of size related formatting styles.
Monospace has built in internal sync (Pro package only) that lets you keep all your devices on the latest version's of your notes, and let's you edit anywhere.
Monospace Writer's hashtags feature replace the classic folder system. Simply add hashtags (which can be nested) to the last line of a file and Monospace will take care of the file/folder organisation for you.
Monospace Writer allows for exporting via Markdown, meaning it has copy and paste support for a huge amount of services, including Wordpress and Tumblr.

Enable code mode and text size adjustment Like the app, but I use it mostly for sketching out programming ideas. It is a bit annoying when _code_ is converted to bold text. Also, I need longer lines sometimes, so being able to adjust the text size would be sweet!

if i want to export a note as markdown, it says no file to upload. dropbox and drive are linked. i'd really like to have some sort of connection to my other .md files on my dropbox which i created with an external markdown editor on my laptop. but i can't even upload .md from monospace (only text) but you can imagine how this looks like.

Convenient and minimalist. I'm unsure if minimalism in presentation should entail minimalism in function, though: a few extra features, while small, could be crucial in increasing usability (eg, a dedicated or easily accessible undo function). Small touches like that which aid in the process of writing itself could really up Monospace from more than just a glorified, Drive-syncing notetaker and into something that's precisely between writing quick blurbs and longer walls of text, a niche that I think is nicely (but not yet perfectly) being carved out by apps like this.

very nice. used this to replace sec notes because of the fingerprint scanner. pro price is a little steep especially when this is billed as a bare bones app with limited functionality.

Awesome But... I need folders. If Monospace had folders it would be perfect. EDIT: Nevermind, just found out hashtag grouping. It is in fact perfect.

Great app! I like the design, very straightforward & the encrypted tag makes it one of the best writing/notes app I've used.

Bullet list behavior is retarded. The app keeps removing the bullet marks whenever I press enter to go to the next line.
Works like a charm. The best of its kind on Android. Simple, clean, easy to use.
Reminds me of my type writer! This is a sweet app. Perfect for writers who love to see the font which was highly popular!
Just installed this today and saw that it says it has "automatic syncing" with Google Drive when you get the pro version ($4). I assumed that the app would create a folder in Drive called "monospace writer" or something. So I decided to try the Pro version. After enabling Drive access, I created some notes, and then went to Drive to see what was there. I even gave it a while. But I was not able to find anything in Drive. I saw, while in a note, that I could share that note with Drive, but that would
Great App Overall When I try to format text my G3's formatter pops up in the way. It gets pretty frustrating and makes a big part of this app almost useless. Thanks for the response! I hope something works out with it soon. I'm changing this to a five star review now that I've switched phones. This app has all the note taking functionality I want I just wish it was less buggy sometimes. Great app either way though! Its simple, but with great features.

This is an issue effect all LG devices that i have yet to fix. I need to get hold of an LG device - but until then i'm afraid there's nothing i can do. I used to love this app. The workflow used to be perfect. I would write notes on my phone and they would backup straight in to dropbox. I could write a note on my computer in plain text and it would shoot straight in to my phone. It was beautiful and simple. They added drive sync and it hasn't worked for me since. Pretty lame for a paid app. It still works well if you don't want sync but that defeats half the purpose.
amazing i absolutely love this app. not only used for notes, it's perfect for those random bursts of creativity when you have that idea for a bomb ass text/poem/story/whatever and have no paper around. plus, it looks super tumblr-esque. it's a must for me now
Kudos to dev, hopefully they read this review. This is one of the few apps that i actually paid for and I have yet to regret my decision. Coming from an IT student. I really enjoy the folder system using hashtags. There's one thing I would really like to see happen, that is hiding the notification bar and the onscreen buttons for certain phones to fully immerse the user into writing and note taking.
Help with syncing So far I am really loving this app, it has moved to become my go to note app. The only thing is, I am having problems syncing between my Huawei Nexus 6P and a Samsung Galaxy Tab A. I have pro, and I have done reinstalls on both devices. Upon the reinstall on the Galaxy Tab A, it prompted me to connect an email, not so on the Nexus 6P. How can I resolve this?
Can be better -The hashtag parser is not quite well coded as expected. I dont see the folders I expect to see. -I need shortcuts like, write between stars for italics etc. -And who the hell keeps google sync for the pro version. This is a very basic feature. Should be allowed in the lite version as well.
Proper native markdown support rather than relying on in-app controls would seal the deal. It's too bad the app seems to discourage manually formatting. It seems to work for some formatting but not other and there's no way to preview the effect while writing
A couple of things Please just add long press actions for folders (and then have it modify the #'s in the contained files) and add being able to select more than one item after long pressing. That would make this app gold.
Not Perfect, But Still Great. Fantastic for getting your ideas out in a simplistic and (mostly) straightforward way. Easily the best simple writing app for Android. I gladly paid the fee for the extra features. Not surprisingly, there are a few bugs and hitches, but it's easy to get in contact with the developer when needed. If you're a writer or even someone who just takes notes a lot, this app is a must-download.
Problems with Dropbox sync The Dropbox sync seems to be buggy. Only a few of the files are backed up to my account and the sync doesn't always work. Moreover the app logs out of my Dropbox account again and again and so has to be relinked, which is again faulty. GREAT APP BUT PLEASE SEE TO THIS ISSUE.
A very buggy app. I pressed undo a few times and erased a 3,000+ word story. This should not happen. Text also doesn't retain its formating after the app is closed. I want to like it because it's precisely what I've been seeking, but it's too glitchy to be of any use.
great app, with one small niggle... ...please add folder sorting! It's really annoying seeing my folders ordered like this: 2013, 2016, 2011 ; and this: 05, 08, 01, 06. As you can see there doesn't seem to be any discernible rhyme or reason to the current "sort" for folders!
Excellent, tho could use small improvements I love writing in this app. The layout and margins feel great on my 10" tablet, and feels like a typewriter. It's easy on the eyes, with no cluttered toolbars or other distractions. The share feature can link to so many other apps, and the hashtag sorting can be useful. One thing I would appreciate is the ability to sort entries by Date Created, not just Date Modified and Name. The way the app works now, I cannot use it as a diary and have to export entries to another diary app to keep them in chronological order. This is a major drawback, which fortunately could be a simple fix. Another suggestion would be the ability to see All Files at once, regardless of hashtags or folders. Thanks for a great app. Hope to see some of these easy improvements soon. :)
I absolutely love it. There are some problems with the encryption command, tho. When I try to encrypt a note that is also tagged to a folder, it loses the encryption and the password security. Any ideas on how to solve this? Also, why not simply add the option to encrypt an entire folder?
Great app Great app, working nicely and as others said the best for taking notes I could find, quick question as well cause I'm failing to find it, is there a way to un - encrypt the files again? I just used it for the first time and now I'm failing to find a button for it.
Unusable for me. Looks like one of the best of this type of distraction free writing apps with just the right mix of features but several times when I tried to use it the program deleted almost all of the text in the note/file then saved it as is so there was no means of getting back hours of work. It was just gone. Too bad because it has potential. Maybe using swiping to type is what triggered deleting and saving features but still unacceptable for real world use.
This is with all honesty my favorite note keeper. The format settings disappeared after I bought the full version. Other than that the app is fantastic, and the only improvement I could think of is to allow split screen support.
It's an awesome app but... The formatting doesn't stick. I use this app quite a bit, but when I format a document it will disappear when I open it back up. I would love the pro version, but as someone who is quite obsessive with organization, I have to continuously reformat the same documents.
Can't understand how the sync with Google Drive works. I've got 3 devices, and each of them stays with a different set of notes. None of them syncs with the other device's notes.
Clean interface, easy to use. Why do I hate it? I just spent an hour trying (and failing) to locate an exported file from monospace that I would have liked to use in another application. Likely I am some sort of idiot who just doesn't get file systems, or the intent of the Monospace creators, but I am unable to identify any place in the instructions or controls which allows a clue as to where to find my data outside of Monospace on my device. As such, Monospace is a beautiful work of art but useless as an ap for generating text that can be used anywhere but in Monospace, so far as I can tell.
Well the idea and concept is amazing. The functionalities are on point. But I can't seem to sync my data after paying for the pro version so I lost some valuable data thinking it would sync in my drive
Needs serious work After deleting files, they reappear when cloud syncing. The background stays black in portrait, but not landscape. Margins are huge in landscape, for no reason. Dev is unresponsive.
Very good for a mobile note taking app. I like the tag method, and it's relatively simple to learn. No 5 star because the obnoxious ad, but other than that, very nice app. A pleasure to use. I will probably get the pro version in the near future, just because the ad is annoying and I do want drive sync.
