Akutagawa Castle is a medieval castle located on Mt. Miyoshi (about 183m above sea level) in Oazahara, Takatsuki City.
The castle area is about 500m from east to west and about 400m from north to south, making it one of the largest castles in Osaka Prefecture.
In addition, it is a rare castle in Japan where the rise and fall of the castle from its construction to its demolition can be confirmed from many historical documents.
Takakuni Hosokawa, the shugo (provincial governor) of Settsu Province, built the castle.
This is the reason why Chokei is referred to as "the first ruler of the Sengoku period." The castle was visited not only by samurai families, but also by temples and shrines in Kyoto, court nobles, and people from surrounding villages seeking justice for Chokei, as well as many cultural figures such as renga poets and Confucian scholars.
In the 11th year of the Eiroku era (1568), Nobunaga Oda, who was aiming to go to Kyoto with Yoshiaki Ashikaga, defeated the Miyoshi clan, who were confined to Akutagawa Castle, and stayed there for about two weeks, welcoming various people, including the Emperor's messenger. .
After that, Akutagawa Castle ended its role with the trend of the times and was buried in history, but recent research has increased its attention as a strategically and politically important castle.
