Wtf SO I'M TRYING TO LEARN A LIST OF WORDS FOR THE GRE..AND THIS THING JUST KEEPS ON ADDING RANDOM WORDS JUST BECAUSE IT THINKS I DON'T KNOW THE DEFINITION OF IT...WTF I WANT MY MONEY BACK.
Huh? Its more of a convoluted thesaurus than a vocabulary builder. Don't give me passages of literature without context and expect me to correlate it to some very loose, and often unrelated, summarization of of the meaning that doesn't capture the word's spirit. It basically has me thinking that whoever is in charge of making this app is creating disinformation with the meaning. Wish I could have done a trial on this before paying... I want my money back! Bah...oh well. Overall, I'm pretty underwhelmed.
Pedagogy I have learnt a lot using this very cool app. The definitions of words are very modern. I have used it a while now and it has crashed on me three times, but that may be because I was pressing buttons too fast on my crusty old mobile phone.
SOLVED:Problem adding word to learning list Method A:The trick is to do not search for a word. 1.Type the word in the search box completely, don't select from suggestions . 2.Press back button once, to make on screen keyboard disappear. 3.Scroll down the word page, bottom you will find the "start learning the word" button. Method B: In the word page, if the said button is not coming, navigate to left/right page by swiping, and then swipe back to your page. Button will show up.
Pros and Cons Pros: 1. Clear definitions. 2. Nice layout of definition sections (primary, full, word family, usage and sources). Cons: 1. Not a comprehensive dictionary (don't expect to find all the words you're looking for). 2. Poor organization of content (you are expected to keep swiping until you get bored). 3. Lack of user control (no settings???, No indicators of position or progress like a scroll bar, No offline use ). 4. A tad slow. 5. Audio is sometimes truncated. 6. "Start learning this word" at times missing
Nice But still has space for improvement, not sure why I'm getting random words to learn which I didn't put on the list. It just pops up often as some archaic expression. Why is the list limited to 250 words. Also, It would be nice to incorporate some speed learning like memrise has.
