The app keeps hanging on first load on my Pixel. It's been doing this for several updates now. The app is also regularly stuttering and hanging in general use. I'm grateful you've reverted to the more conventional UI but the performance issues are starting to get very annoying. Also, STILL no clarity for Android.
I have used VSCO from around 5 years ago and since that I don't really have much complaints. I really like the way it looks now! Not that I hate the previous version, but now it looks cleaner and brighter and somehow classy to me. I just hate the fact that VSCO only gives free unlimited filter to iOS users (lol I highkey jealous) like what's the deal with Android users???
The actual editing interface is good. The UI is one of the worst experiences I have ever encountered and gets worse with every update. Navigation is awkward, poorly signposted and not intuitive. Great content let down by lack of human centered design. Google has a whole Material design resource you should read for guidance on intuitive visual design.
It WAS a great photo app. And now I'm uninstalling it because of interface changes and worse than ever user experience. You say that now I can disable the camera when I'm not using it. So where are the settings to do that? Don't want to waste my time and nerves on this all interface.
Finally they've ditched the awful "joystick" user interface so, for that reason alone, the latest update is a big improvement. However it's still unnecessarily complicated to navigate - a simple hamburger menu would make life a lot easier. UI complaints aside, this is still my go-to app for editing prior to uploading to Instagram etc.
I loved VSCO, bought all the presets, used it daily. Unfortunately, when the redesigned version came out (14, I think) it was a total wreck. But, the team listened and updated the app until everything was fixed — took just over a week. Now, with v17, it appears to be in good working order again. I see some decisions have been made to push social/commercialize it, but I can't fault them for needing to do that if it helps build a better VSCO. I'm still wary about future versions and will be checking reviews instead of allowing auto-update.
