Review from Dusty Turner
Ads. The only bad thing about Waze is the ads. When I search for a place, a "sponsored" place pops up first, usually not in any way related to what I searched for. Also, the pop-up locations on the map are annoying, too. I don't need to see where the nearest Subaru dealer is, thanks. Also, limited-time only voices that uninstall themselves when it's over? Why can't we keep them? Other than that, the app is fantastic.
Gas prices fixed. I won't be making my own voices recording. WAZE should consider the possibility that an external gps receiver is being used when it starts instead of refusing to run when location is off. After WAZE loads location can be turned off with GPS data being supplied via Mock Location. Works good. But why go through the extra step.
Really liked it at first. I do like that it re routes me if there is a better option. It gets worse with each update, though. Freezes for no reason. Thought it was just my phone, but does it on my husbands, too. I also don't like that it doesn't let me look ahead at my route without moving the screen back to my current position.
Large font set in Android system settings is ignored in the app, only menu font is big, letters on map are very small. Map is wired: when trying to zoom in a bit it quickly zooms in to the maximum level and I need to zoom back out. When turning round the map it alwayd turns around some central point, not around the point between fingers. Roads and objects become invisible, looks like they do that randomly, when you zoom out, so it's harder to understand the full picture of roads between the cities. And you can't zoom out to see more than 5-7 hours of driving at once.
Having a trip planner would make it perfect. I still can't get Facebook friends to load on this thing. It just stopped working for some reason. A fix for reverting back to a baby wazer is still needed.
The app has trouble keeping score of points earned if the account remains inactive for some time. I've driven well over 160+ km since I started using it again (inactive for a year) and it keeps telling me I'm a baby wazer (though it sees I have over 12000 points). What's the point of having an account if the system doesn't use it?
Twice today in unfamiliar busy roads where decisions needed to be made about lanes, I was confronted with adverts asking me if I wanted to go to a particular shop.. was not helpful at all. Needs to change.
