# Description

DragonBox Algebra 12+ is a must-have tool for students so they can earn better grades and gain confidence in algebra and mathematics. It is based on the award winning game DragonBox Algebra 5+ but covers more advanced topics in mathematics and algebra:

DragonBox Algebra 12+ gives players a greater understanding of what mathematics is all about: objects and the relationships between objects.

This educational game targets children from the ages of 12 to 17 but children (or adults) of all ages can enjoy it. Playing doesn’t require supervision, although parents can enjoy playing along with their children and maybe even freshen up their own math skills.

DragonBox Algebra 12+ introduces all these elements in a playful and colorful world appealing to all ages.

The player learns at his/her own pace by experimenting with rules that are introduced gradually. Progress is illustrated with the birth and growth of a dragon for each new chapter.

Dr. Patrick Marchal, Ph.D. in cognitive science, and Jean-Baptiste Huynh, a high school teacher, created DragonBox Algebra 12+ as an intuitive, interative and efficient way to learn algebra.

Good, but when do the training wheels come off? I like the app! Seems to get at some reasonably fear-inducing symbol-manipulation skills in a non-threatening way. The big thing that I think is missing is a way to practice without the game forcing you to only make alegbraically correct moves. For example, there is no way to accidentally add a quantity to only one side of the equation. Would love to see a more challenging mode where that is possible--that would be better proof that students are learning things deeply.

Pretty good but... EDIT: WARNING DON'T BUY IT My only complaint is that I keep finishing levels in 1 to 3 moves under the required amount, it takes the fun out of it because it feels too easy. EDIT: In chapter 10 level 7 I can easily make 1 = 0 using the powers and to me that is really really bad and with a flaw like this it will just confuse students way more than it helps. This flaw knocked 3 stars off my rating and I wish I could give 0 stars until the powers reflect real operations.

This is great I'm 28 years old. I hate computer games, but even more I hate Algebra! However, I will have to pass my Algebra class for my degree. Dragon Box was very helpful. It's actually fun. I wish all math could be like this game. Enjoy!

By far the best Due to some circumstances I had to review some math stuff for my current job. I had not any math since I left high school so I was looking for an app to review some of that. Finally I found this app which not only proved to me to be effective in reteaching stuff to myself, but also to be really fun to play, I probably already addicted now but in a good way! And my daughter really also likes it!

Hei Francisco, Thanks for the feedback. Calculus is more about functions, limits, integrals, differentials and goes beyond what algebra is (which focuses on operations / equations). We should probably invent another game for that :) I hope I'm learning algebra. I love this game. I started playing it to re-introduce myself to math in a fun way after 25 years of not doing any math. I need to pass the GRE. I'm almost done with all the extras in the game now. Dear DragonBox, please make more games. Otherwise, how will I spend my random free moments ... A few more glowing comments: Pleasantly hypnotic tunes, melodies change up with each challenge; Cool sound effects, symbols/ characters that are simultaneously cute and fierce, rich graphics. Altogether stellar.

Jennifer, sorry you feel like that. The game was designed for young people, hence the graphical approach. Yet from chap 1 level 1 everything in the game is algebra. We use shapes instead of letters/digits, that's all. The 'x' appears end of chapter 2 so I would recommend to try it a bit more! Take contact if you still want a refund! Thanks! Have fun with your 6yo ! Amazing The only suggestions are about the solution playback. You could have a parent account, or code, so the full solutions can only be played if the kid asks their parents/teacher. Also keep track of whether the solution was played or not (eg extra star if no solution played). Also the solutions could be played in small sections, so if you only play a little bit of it to get unstuck you get more recognition that if you just play the whole thing. At the end give bonuses for less sections played.

DragonBox Algebra 5+ Is perfect for giving young children a head start in mathematics and algebra. Children as young as five can easily begin to grasp the basic processes involved in solving linear equations without even realising that they are learning. Suitable from age five and up, DragonBox Algebra 5+ gives young learners the opportunity to get familiar with the basics of equation solving.

DragonBox uses a novel pedagogical method based on discovery and experimentation. Players learn how to solve equations in a playful and colorfull game environment where they are encouraged to experiment and be creative. By manipulating cards and trying to isolate the DragonBox on one side of the game board, the player gradually learns the operations required to isolate X on one side of an equation. Little by little, the cards are replaced with numbers and variables, revealing the addition, division and multiplication operators the player has been learning throughout the game.

Playing does not require supervision, although parents can assist them in transferring learned skills into pen and paper equation solving. It is a great game for parents to play with their kids and can even give them an opportunity to freshen up their own math skills.

DragonBox was developed by former math teacher Jean-Baptiste Huynh and has been heralded as a perfect example of game-based learning. As a result, it is currently forming the basis of an extensive research project by the Center For Game Science at the University of Washington.
