The body has over three hundred and sixty acupuncture points that can be stimulated. When these points are stimulated, they interrupt the flow of energy. This cause an analgesic effect which reduces or completely eliminates pain. This kind of interruption of energy can stimulate a stronger energy flow which can heal certain diseases.
Acupuncture points are classified according to their functions. the first category is the five transporting point system. This system explains the flow of energy using the analogy of rivers. Here points are described as parts along the flow line. As per this system, energy bubbles up from a spring and gradually grows in depth and breadth. This is similar to a river flowing flowing down from a mountain into an ocean.
The five transporting system has five points. These are; Jing well, Ying spring, Shu stream, the Jing river and He sea. The Jing well point represents energy level when it bubbles up. They are located at the tips of toes and fingers. The Ying spring point represents energy at the point where it glides down the channel. They indicate the heat of the body and show changes in a person's complexion. The Shu stream indicates the intermittent diseases, the heaviness of the body and the painful joints. The He sea points are where the energy unites and heads deeper into the body. They indicate diarrhea. The jing river points give indications of coughs and colds.
