I am currently learning japanese and felt ready to move on from the very basics, but Kanji is still my weakest area. This helps me fill in the gaps where I'm still learning and check my reading and writing in a way no other app can do. The camera also helps a ton with translating bits of text in books and manga. Exactly what I needed!
It has been very useful in teaching myself Japanese vocabulary, especially off online kanji flashcard sets that don't explain how they're used in text. (I've only used the free version so far.)
The app could not read almost 90% of characters captured on screen. The trial of one week lasted all of two days before locking me out. Disappointing, ineffectual.
I cannot understand why there are so many bad reviews for this wonderful app. I live in Japan and have been using it for several years now. It has NEVER let me down. It is much faster and more practical than using a paper dictionary searching for each radical. I'm guessing most of you giving it bad reviews live in the US and have no idea how to use it properly while reading Japanese Manga in your parent's basement or whatever. You MUST have proper lighting for the camera to focus. And I don't recommend using 'live' mode. Use snapshot mode instead to freeze the pic and drag the translation box over the kanji sever times until recognized, zooming in or out if necessary. It's not rocket science. And no, this app doesn't translate full sentences. That's your job. And those of you whining that the app isn't free... Grow up! The developer has spent thousands of hours making this awesome app and you are unwilling to spend a measly $3 for it? Lol. Many of you cannot appreciate or understand how well this app really works in real-world situations living in Japan. Is Yomiwa perfect? No. But it's faster and better than anything else I've used for translating. One feature I would like to see is the ability to permanently save snapshot photos.
Amazing! The app is really awesome! Thank you very much for making this!! Can you please add romanji letters? It can definitely make it easier to pronounce words.
Crashed very often, hard to focus on camera recognition when text bubbles block the screen, my one week trial suddenly ended in less than 10 hours
