About this app

Automatically backup your SMS, MMS and call history with a separate label in Gmail and Google Calendar.

Later you can restore the saved data (except MMS) back to the phone, especially useful when switching to a new device.

IMAP access needs to be manually enabled in Gmail, see the website and FAQ for more information. You can of course use your own IMAP server for backups, giving you full control over your data.

SMS Backup+ is a free open-source project which has been in active development since the early days of Android, completely ad and tracking-free, supported through voluntary donations.

Many thanks to the numerous people who have donated, contributed feedback, code or translations – detailed credits can be found in the app or on the website.

August 7. I tried a manual backup but get an error message: XOAuthorzation fail. I went to the app and turned off the connection button. After acknowledging that I would have to reauthorize the app I clicked in the affirm. Then I clicked the same button to reconnect to my Google account. When it gave error, an option came up to connect and verify by browser. When I did this action the program works flawlessly. There is nothing wrong with the app. It is Google reverifying the connection.

Great app; I've used it for years. it stopped connecting to GMail around the beginning of Aug. 2019. I fixed it per Phil Mitchell's 9 Aug. 2019 review - I had to use Firefox; his fixed didn't work in Chrome. When you reconnect you'll be given the choice of backing up all messages on your device (most of which had already been previously backed up in my case) or skip backing up them. I chose the latter to prevent duplication of the older messages and lost backups during the disconnected period.

So the options are really hard to figure out. It took me forever to figure out how to only back up one conversation. I don't need all my messages backed up just one or two conversations. when I did figure It out, which was dumb by the way, it only backed up the messages I sent, also dumb. it would be nice to back up the outgoing messages too and let me pick which conversation I want backed up. Oh and when they got to gmail printing them off was a nightmare. They were treated individually so I had like 300 pages of individual messages but only mine. dumb.
