Automatically backup your SMS, MMS and call history with a separate label in Gmail and Google Calendar.

Later you can restore the saved data (except MMS) back to the phone, especially useful when switching to a new device.

IMAP access needs to be manually enabled in Gmail, see the website and FAQ for more information. You can of course use your own IMAP server for backups, giving you full control over your data.

SMS Backup+ is a free open-source project which has been in active development since the early days of Android, completely ad and tracking-free, supported through voluntary donations.

August 7. I tried a manual backup but get an error message: XOAuthorzation fail. I went to the app and turned off the connection button. After acknowledging that I would have to reauthorize the app I clicked in the affirm. Then I clicked the same button to reconnect to my Google account. When it gave error, an option came up to connect and verify by browser. When I did this action the program works flawlessly. There is nothing wrong with the app. It is Google reverifying the connection.

Several years ago when I first started using this app, I would've given it a 5star rating. Unfortunately in the last couple of years, I've had issues with the auto backup. It has been hit or miss and I've deleted messages thinking they had been backed up when they hadn't. I just manually ran a backup. The last auto backup was 10/21/18 - almost a month ago. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the app hoping that would resolve the issue but it didn't. Incoming msg backup is set at 1 minute and regular schedule is set at 30 minutes. It is not set to require WiFi. I don't know what else to do other than to try other apps...

Used to work great and it's awesome to have backed up in gmail and searchable. However, just noticed it hasn't backed up in over 2 weeks. I didn't change anything and settings show that it should be happening every few hours. Had to do it manually and there are thousands waiting. Hoping it's just a glitch. Update 2022: Sadly, this isn't what it used to be. Still works sometimes if done manually (auto never works) but often errors out midway.
