Are you visiting the Modern Gallery in Saarbrücken with a school class or with your family? Then the app is suitable for an entertaining visit. In the form of a “quiz duel”, family members or school classes can solve tasks in up to 11 groups. For school classes and leisure groups, we recommend working in teams of three.

There are three questions for each exhibition room, a yes/no question, a multiple choice question and a free text answer. All questions are equally difficult, but they are different for all participants. You receive points for the correct answers and can then see in a ranking who answered the questions best. The game is anonymous: all participants are assigned an artist name as a “nickname” by the program.

When all people or groups have answered the three questions about a room, they move on to the next room. Since the pace of work varies, there are simple arithmetic and estimation tasks to bridge the waiting time to strengthen arithmetic skills.

NOTE: In Wing A of the Modern Gallery, five rooms belong to the permanent collection. A basement room (studio gallery) and an exhibition room on the upper floor are used for temporary exhibitions. They are not part of the “quiz duel”. There are no questions in the quiz duel for room 5 (above room 3 on the ground floor). It goes from room 3 on the ground floor directly to room 6 (middle pavilion, 1st floor)

When the questions about all five rooms of the permanent collection are answered, the “Hidden Room” opens. This is a highlight tour with audios of the ten most important works in the Modern Gallery. Questions must then also be answered about these works.

Outside of the “quiz duel”, the app offers a poetry slam: in any room of the Modern Gallery you choose a work and create a poetry slam, a sequence of texts or a poem with five lines. The work must be presented to others. Here too, the other groups can make ratings and the best poetry slam will be determined.

The game starts where there are currently the greatest teaching deficits: it has its pedagogical background primarily in the subject of German: reading skills are promoted because it involves searching for artist names, titles and dates. The questions on the audio tour strengthen the ability to understand spoken texts. The poetry slam serves to produce your own texts. And don't be afraid of math: the waiting time is bridged with simple, everyday mathematical tasks. Interest in art is of course also encouraged: The “hidden room” presents the most important works of art from the Modern Gallery’s collection in simple, understandable language.
