The app is fine. Loading the charts from Visit my harbour is a nightmare. The instructions are great except they do not match the happenings on screen. Wasted hours on this. Navionics is vastly superior with no messing around wth zip files etc etc.
Just to say that if anyone is put off by Graeme's review saying downloading from Visitmyharbour is difficult I have just found it very easy and I am no techy. Obviously the download some time but it was as estimated ( 15 - 30 mins ) . Impressed Steve at VMH replied with the activation code in 30 mins ( and on a Sunday ) . The whole set up looks great and I really like the app. If it works at sea as well as it appears it will I'll be very pleased. If not I'll revisit and reduce my 5 star rating ! Just one thing I have a slider to the right hand of the screen that I cannot work out what it does. Any ideas ?
Really powerful app. I really love this app. I have it on myandroid and works great. Really useful, precise and easy to use. Support is great. I do struggle to find maps for the Med, but this doesn't depend on this app. I give 5 stars, but it's really 4.5. With VMG and AIS integration it would be 5 stars.
I've used the app in the St Lawrence River, which can be treacherous, and it worked flawlessly. I highly recommend it.
Great app. I have used Maptech Offshore Navigator Lite on a laptop for navigation for years. This app does most of what the Maptech program does. It's very intuitive and easy to use. For local cruising I'll be leaving my laptop at home and using this. For long distance cruising in unfamiliar waters, I'll continue to use Maptech on a laptop to have the larger screen and a few more features, with this app now providing a very capable, stand alone back up. The reasonable price makes it a great value. Highly recommend.
Really good: full offline charts We've used it several times in Puget Sound with NOAA charts on Nexus 7. Without external powe and running the app continuously, screen on, we get about 2-3 hrs of location, SOG and COG - really impressive. The app is faster than the onboard Garmin chartplotter. It's missing a few items like tides and currents as well as weather/grib import.
