IMHO this is probably the best RNC navigation app that uses official RNC charts directly from their respective sources. For voyage planning purposes this app runs circles around professional ECDIS machines costing tens of thousands of dollars more. I purchased this app over 5 years ago. Mr. Koenig keeps improving and updating this app over the years and has implemented several suggestions I have made a few years ago. In addition to planning, I also use it to verify that the vessel is on course no matter where I am on the vessel (even inside with a marginal GPS signal near portholes). I have not observed any deviation when comparing it against IMO type approved equipment. -- I am a USCG licensed professional mariner with an unlimited master's license (Any Gross Tons, Oceans) since 1999 with 30 years sea experience.
Not totally intuitive to set up but worth the effort. It works really well with some slight niggles. Blanks on adjacent charts when working away from vessel position is a bit unnerving. Would love to see NMEA integrated and then thus would get 6 out of 5.
This is a very good app for daysails, maybe. But for coastal travel it is too ponderous. There needs to be a way to import more than one chart at a time from the bsb_root folder. I would rather press a SELECT ALL button (or check the box that means to select all in a list view) and have to walk away for an hour or two, than to sit there and select them for import one at a time. I would even prefer, since you do not use the downloaded NOAA file directly, to have a separate app to do the conversion and import to the default list of all charts that appear in the bsb_root folder automatically. This would save a tremendous amount of time. Either option would serve to automate the mind numbing process a little.
This app worked great on my s7 edge but i had to replace the phone and then upgrade the OS and now the map is always offcenter. Ive tried everything but to no avail.
Buy it. For $10 you are set up with a first rate plotter. Lite version works 100% and will get you there but the full version is a great deal. I purchased it as a token of graditude to the developer for making the lite version a working app. Love it.
Used this for 2 years with VMH charts. After using Transas software on PC, this app is very usable, used it to navigate from Great Yarmouth UK south past Harwich Thames, Dover to Plymouth. It never faltered unlike the Garmin plotter.
