ABOUT THE EXHIBITION
Lotte Laserstein (1898–1993) first made a name for herself in the thriving art scene of the Weimar era. Her career came to an abrupt halt in 1937 when she was forced to flee Germany for Sweden, where she fell into oblivion. Laserstein’s oeuvre is one of the major rediscoveries of the past years. The aim of this exhibition is to put it back in the spotlight.
Laserstein’s oeuvre features sensitive and compelling portraits from the final years of the Weimar Republic. With approximately forty paintings and drawings, the exhibition focusses on Laserstein’s artistic development. Emphasis is placed on works from the 1920s and 30s, which mark the peak of her artistic work. “Lotte Laserstein. Face to Face” is the artist’s first solo exhibition in Germany outside of Berlin.
