About this app

A simple tool for spontaneous, local network file transfers. Supports Windows, Mac and Linux PCs and Android phones.

Features:

- No setup required, just launch LanXchange on multiple devices
- Automatically finds devices in the same network
- Uses the local network for transfers - much faster than cloud based solutions
- Runs on Android phones/tablets and PCs (Win, Mac, Linux)
- No Ads, no tracking, 100% free and open source software

PC version is available from https://www.lanxchange.com/
Source (for both Android & PC) is available from https://github.com/tfg13/LanXchange

Used permissions:
- Internet: Required to access the local network. This application only communicates in your home network.
- Access network state: Used to decide which network adapters to use (LanXchange only uses local connections like Wifi, never mobile broadband)
- Access wifi state: Used to check Wifi state (to avoid sending anything when Wifi is off)
- Change wifi multicast state: Required for local discovery of other devices without central server
- Wake lock: To keep transfers running and files available when the screen turns off. LanXchange turns itself off if not used to save power.
- Storage: To read and write the transferred files

Tried it out, since transferring data via USB cable from my S20 to my PC took so long. Granted, this app is a faster solution transferring data from LAN-connected to WLAN-connected devices and vice versa. But preparing the transfer list could be easier and lesser tedious, because I could only select the files within one folder for a transfer job. So I have to create a lot of transfer jobs for each single folder. Would be a lot better, if you could choose a whole folder including subfolders. 😉

So far so good, it does everything fine. Simple interface & easy to manage & navigate. But it lacks one thing that I'm looking for, the ability to send a folder to another device. I haven't found any other app with this function & I hope the DevTeam can make this happen cause for me this is one of the best apps for file transfer, highly recommended.

It does one job, but does it do it well? My experience using this app along with the desktop components has been mixed. Using the same set of devices in the same network, files shared by one device sometimes shows up instantly on others for download, and sometimes not at all. Most of the time, there is a delay in showing up, typically between five and 30 seconds. Hence, I conclude that this app is good for quick tranafers. Anything that requires more stability needs another solution.
